Looking for advice on how to be less of a ‘yes woman.’ I’ve gotten feedback that I should be less quick to say yes or should feel comfortable pushing back on unreasonable requests, but I’m struggling with doing that in practice.

Wondering if there are any resources (coaching, book recommendations…?) that you have found helpful to retrain your frame of mind to be less of a people pleaser and feel more confident being direct or saying no. Any suggestions welcome!

One tactical piece of advice I got that has really helped me is, don’t ever say yes OR no right away, always do some info seeking first and say you need to think about it. If you get in the habit of inserting a pause, you’re less likely to automatically say yes to something that ultimately is a bad idea

You can also respond without saying yes or no— “Let me give this some thought and I’ll get back to you by EOD” is a perfectly reasonable response to many questions/requests.

Any comment on below observation:

In Deloitte USI Consulting -
Analyst fixed salary range 5-12 lpa
Consultant fixed salary range 11-16 lpa

In Accenture strategy
Analyst fixed salary range goes till 18 lpa
Consultant fixed range goes till 28 lpa

But for Manager level, both company's fixed pay in range of 30-50 lpa..

Is this correct observation?

Has anyone been successful at creating “boundaries” in the workplace both with duties and relationships with bosses and not been gaslighted to believe they just aren’t being a team player ( or in other words highly agreeable)? How have you told your reports to take care of themselves? I have one telling me about busy weeks where they skip meals, working out, and cut sleeping short.

Is it common for companies to not disclose pay grades?
I started a new job last month and the position title is very vague/fluid and they wanted someone with a master’s degree, but they got me instead who has two bachelor’s degrees and seven years of experience in my field of digital marketing.
I asked my managers if I could receive my pay grade information to keep with my own personal records and they said, “In the interest of confidentiality we cannot share that”.
Anyone else w/this issue?

In fact, her direct supervisor, loved the same template I turn in to her, and asked me to share it with all staff. It is a daily breakdown. I asked if there was an issue with my productivity or if the director had asked for it and she said no but she wants to be proactive. I replied it sounds like micromanaging.
