Looking for advice: S/O is doing a PhD + a startup at the same time, and works more intense hours than I do, 8am till like 3am on most days and bleeds into weekends sometimes (I’m basically cruising at like 50-55 hours per week, no weekend work). Part of me wants to spend more time with her, but part of me also just wants to support her. We used to spend some quality time everyday watching shows together or something but recently even that has become difficult due to the nature of … cont’d

With this kind of work ethic, you better get used to it. You can ask, but these kinds of people are usually so in love with working they will not compromise. At that point you can decide if this is what you want out of your partner

It’s not a joke though

Also sorry but 55 hours a week is not cruising, be fairer on yourself

…her startup (based in Asia, so her meetings are throughout the evening + night here). Am I selfish for wanting to spend more time with her? I don’t want her to give up on her startup but I don’t know what else I can do. This isn’t something I want out of a relationship. How would you deal with this situation?

If I’d really love her, I’d be fine with it knowing it’s not forever. I’d support her and I’d enjoy being part of her journey. I’d do anything to help her be successful, as long it isn’t… forever. But love and a relationship… it’s a marathon, not a sprint. And If I wouldn’t be 100% happy and confident in the relationship… I’d take it as a reason why I’d want to break up.

Help her on your weekends. Like others said the PhD isn’t forever.

Currently an A3 in audit. My team communicated to me that they’re pushing for me to get mid-year promo (Jan 2022) but I’m also interested in leaving to another Big 4 for AAS as an S1. Current salary is $73.6k and am unsure of how much I should be going for to make the jump worth it. I know EY FAAS offered a friend $85k in my market but assuming I get mid year promo I’m not so sure the salary bump would be significant enough. How much room for negotiation is there with Big 4 experienced hires?

Hi Fishes! All help appreciated I received an offer from my dream co. - McKinsey. Have another discussion with HR for comp. & joining details, once I accept the offer. I want to join after 4 months (2m of notice period at Deloitte & 2m I want for personal self). How do I take that up? How much deferral of joining is normal? Suggest some reasons (something that sounds genuine | Honestly want to sit home for 2 months and relax, but not sure if HR will accept it) Share experiences if anyone?

Hi EY and Fishes everywhere! I might be getting an offer to join tax as an S1 (or exp. assoc), probably not being able to start until mid August based off how the process has been. However, I currently work at a mid size firm and we’re already getting into busy season. How would it look if I asked EY to postpone my start date till after 10/15 and say that I’m not ready to be thrown into a Big 4 busy season and that I don’t want to leave my current firm out to dry. Thank you all so much! @EY
