Delete your emails regularly, esp. if you’re working with McK

My standard entry level career advice and coaching that I've given all my staff over the years:
1. learn to type fast without having to look at the keyboard
2. Learn keyboard shortcuts and generally be computer literate (ex: understand basics of how Outlook works and what happens when you reply to an email vs. meeting invite)
3. If you have nothing else to do in a meeting, take some goddamn notes. See #1.
4. Think critically. The question is why, not just what, when, and how to do it. Why am I doing it.

Found out today that my gross pay of $240,000 yields the same take home pay as a couple that each make $100,000. Meaning I pay an extra $40,000 in taxes for the same takehome (my partner's in school and is not working). Is this fair?
From my POV, I've recently made the decision to move to the US next year for income+tax benefits.

Is there any real exit opportunities for an executive compensation/employee benefits junior associate? I see a handful of employment in-house counsel roles and some compensation in-house roles — but those either require 7+ years of experience or some sort of employment/litigation experience (which i never do). I had a five-year Big Law plan, but i don’t think I can make it that long!

What’s the consensus on tattoos in the insurance workplace? I’m in leadership and considering exploring my options due to recent personnel changes. I work remote and have arm sleeves, and any time I would be in-person I’d of course wear a long sleeve shirt to be professional, but worry about a cuff rolling up and tattoos being somewhat visible. Nothing is offensive by any means.

Has anyone seen the Joker? I have not and don’t think i will since it deals with mental health issues and from what i heard it is a “heavy” movie...

Thread: I stepped away from a job that was making me miserable a few months ago to focus on my mental health. I had been talking to a company during those months who gave me a verbal offer and then recently said they had to put the role on hold because of the market. Now I’m scrambling to find a job and people aren’t hiring until August at the earliest. If there’s a 4 month gap in my resume, will the “I was taking care of my mental health” line sound bad?

Hi creatives! I need your help here. A quick background:

Junior copywriter based in Toronto here. Came to Canada about a year ago and did an internship at Klick Health.

Once it ended in late August, they didn't take on ANY intern full time. Been job searching for the past 3 months. Would really appreciate any leads/insight on some entry level gig or internship that might be available in this city. I know it's year end and it's hard, but I am still hopeful as I have seen people still get hired.

Hello,

I am a 3rd year insurance defense attorney with product and premise liability experience. Due to long-COVID, I am likely to lose my job.

The plan is to find a government position that would involve more substantive litigation and trial work, then leverage that into the private sector a few years down the line.

Any advice would be appreciated regarding networking, where to start, etc. Thank you.

Hi Fishes, Need your suggestions. I recently got offers from MongoDB (CTC- 8.5 LPA fixed + RSUs) and SHL (10 LPA fixed +1 LPA Bonus) This is for the HR profile. Though CTC offered by SHL is more, MongoDB has good benefits to offer in terms of free cab, lunch, snacks, annual leaves. Please suggest which one to consider in terms of wlb and company culture.

So, I started watching “Limitless” with Chris Hemsworth. Apparently, he found out he carries both genes for dementia which puts him at a higher risk. So the series is about him changing things in his life for longevity. The third episode is about fasting and he fasts for 4 days until the day he has to hunt for his food. Does anyone in healthcare have thoughts on this type of fasting? I know it is done in some cultures and religions, but to what extent?

16 weeks and so worried all of the stress I’m under is going to hurt the baby. Between work, my own scary (non-pregnancy) health stuff, the pandemic, my mom (who is a widow and lives alone, basically isolated by choice due to covid) is having health issues, and pressures to keep billable hours up, I’ve been having complete breakdowns. Today I spent almost the entire day crying and now have to make up the billable time this weekend. I really worry abt what effect this will have on the babe.
