Looking for advice…
I am 60 days into a new EA role in another industry. I support 2.5 partners (I say 2.5 because one of the partners is on a partial leave). I am learning the role as quickly as possible but I do not seem to be meeting the expectations of my manager and some peers. I am also a woman of color in a majority white workplace (3/100+). From day 1 I have never felt accepted and have ignored several inappropriate comments made by manger.

First of all I’m so sorry this is happening as a Woman of Color I fully sympathize.

You should immediately begin looking for a new job because they are planning to let you go (hence the job posting).

Next you need to document EVERYTHING that has happened, including taking a screenshot of your post here.
Document any performance feedback they provided and be sure it’s specific as possible. Try and find a manager or co-worker you are friendly with and connect with them on LinkedIn (you may need to reach out in the future for a reference)

Not trying to be the asshole here and Im very sorry you are going through this but.. sounds like you are getting canned next week . Your boss was warning you while she got HR lined out. You need to start applying for other roles, but let them fire you so you can collect unemployment in case you don’t land something else right away. Count this as a blessing in disguise, sounds like they aren’t the right fit for you.

Cont’d.
Last week my manager informed me that she did not know what else she could do to further help me, while also asking if I was slow to process information because I don’t seem to ask questions. Additionally, she stated I was a detriment to the people I support. The conversation was left with we will discuss this next week. However, this weekend I noticed a job posting for the exact position I hold (I don’t think the company is growing). It could be coincidental but the posting was placed on the same day my manger and I had this conversation.
What would you do in this predicament? Should I begin looking for a new job proactively, or wait and see, should I mention the job posting?

Im so sorry this happened to you, Ive been in this situation and its very unfair and uncomfortable. The problem here sounds like a lack of role specific training not necessarily your skill set. Be sure to document everything! I would suggest you request specific training from your manager and simultaneously seek out another successful EA who you can shadow and lean the “ need to knows” from.

I was in a similar position and the worst thing happened. They couldn’t find a candidate. So that feeling of dread got stretched out a month. Then six months. Then a year. I finally just quit because feeling unwanted and knowing they were looking was so unbearable. I wanted them to lay me off so I could get unemployment, instead they just made my life more and more miserable. Don’t wait for them to make a decision for you. If you are unhappy in this role, take your talents elsewhere and own that decision. Don’t do what I did and let others decide for you. Because even if they aren’t looking…do you really want to stay in this environment?

like

Have they been forthcoming with comments about what it is you’re not doing?

like

Eh unfortunately just sounds like not a good fit or space for growth for you. Easiest would likely be to find a different opportunity. If you’re not able to ask questions without being patronized about it, I don’t see how you can learn about the group and expectations. I think I’d start looking elsewhere

like

Don’t waste your energy on these people. I’m sorry to say but they have already made a decision. There is nothing worse or unhealthy than working for people who are determined to not like, or appreciate your work.

It will be important to get all your personal info off the laptop. Any performance related threads, anything where people expressed appreciation, get cc’s of your HR docs and time reports, etc. friend positive and neutral contacts on LinkedIn, and keep your Fishbowl id that you set up with your work email. It won’t be canceled when you leave.

If you can’t save these docs, or attach them to gmails (even as drafts), then print them. Again this includes any time someone said “thank you for…” in an email.

Also, this probably has less to do with you than you’d think. For all you know they have someone else in mind and are just trying to work the process.

I’m really sorry this is happening to you. The stress must be intense.

Oh no. I'm so sorry. Have you made a complaint? Or at least let your immediate supervisor know about your situation.
