Looking for advice…I have been told that transitioning into L&D should be “easy” given by experience and skills (20+ years in education as a teacher, counselor, district administrator, higher ed. program Director, Academic Affairs Assoc. Dean plus part-time instructional designer). I have an EdD in Leadership (School-system) and an MA in Counseling Psychology.

I have applied for various position levels from specialist to Director with no luck. Any ideas for what level I should be applying for?

As someone who has been in the L&D space for over 10 years, no one in corporate is going to read that resume. You definitely can look at Manager and Director level positions but you need to tailor your resume for each position and take out that stuff at the top. It’s too much.

As a corporate recruiter, I personally think everything needs to be a lot shorter and just bullet points without the random bolding throughout. Take all the industry-specific buzzwords out as well. It’s a bit of a daunting read as-is.

This is the resume version that I meant to post. However, I am looking more for comments on positions/levels that I should be focused on given my experience. But thanks for the resume feedback…FYI paid $100s for a resume rewrite…guess that was a waste

That's why I think a lot of career coaches and resume services are a waste of money. There are free resources online that show you how to write a resume that is both ATS and manual HR review friendly.

That being said, this one is definitely a lot better than the one you originally posted. The one you had prior had too much fluff and not enough bullets that demonstrate your impact.

like

I would put you at a Manager/Sr Manager maybe Director but you might be beat out by someone with more direct L&D experience.

Also I know you spent a lot of money on your resume and youre not looking for advice but it’s probably why youre not hearing back at all despite your experience, if it was just a level mismatch you would at least be getting some phone screens.

Recruiters have about 30 sec (a whole min if they’re generous) to read your resume. Your experience should list the biggest and most relevant accomplishments from each role and thats it. No need to include every single responsibility if its not related to the specific role youre applying to and bullet instead of big paragraphs. It needs to be visually laid out in a way thats easy to read (bc contrary to popular belief, an ATS only helps sort resumes it still has to be read by a real person)

People don’t read, they scan. I see a wall of text. Cognitive overload. Make it easy for the recruiter…tailor + refine for each submission based on requirements.

What would you do if you were in between a mediocre official job offer with potential growth or waiting to hear back from a better opportunity (better pay by 10-20k more; better chance to get CPA license whereas the other doesnt)? I was told verbally that I was the only one who made the final interview and will hear back within a week. However, I had to respectfully ask the mediocre job to give me a week to make a decision. I’m afraid I’ll lose out on both opprotunities if I wait too long

Making good traction, but then you're contacted by a company in a niche that FASCINATES you...like you read books about this subject for fun, you'd probably love this job. It's remote, the salary is good, the manager is nice, but you'd be the most senior marketing person; the company is about 200 people. What would you do?

I finally acted on my interest in Product Management and applied for a few positions within the healthcare industry.
