I recently received an offer from Microsoft for a Program manager internship. I just found out that it wasn't at the location (local) i intended it to be and I have to relocate to Seattle. This really doesn't work out for my logistically and I was wondering if its possible to somehow switch it to a remote position. Please let me know if anyone has been in this situation before id greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
I may be ignorant but with prior sales and some software/cloud integration experience, and now completing a blue chip enterprise sales internship, you’d be prime candidate for any tech vertical you want to be in. Can look into pre-sales, solutions consulting, account or customer success mgt, on top of sales engineering for any “as-a-service” vendor you so choose if you stay in cloud. Could attract interest in joining start-ups with equity, make sure you check in with recruiters and have your LI open to opps. I’d say the only jobs you’d not be perfectly qualified for are closing roles like Account Executive but if you did pre-sales you could work with AE’s and help win clients (and get a piece of the win).
What sort of tasks have you enjoyed most? I think that will guide you better than just looking at your experience.
Thanks for the response. I've enjoyed business development, account management responsibilities, lead qualification, I could definitely go on. There's none of these that stand out more than the other in terms of enjoyment and satisfaction and I'd have to say it's more of the technology for me I.e. does the company focus on emerging or newly adopted tech within their solution set. Hopefully that is helpful
Don’t stay at IBM, it’s too old school. Candidates from IBM have always been down prioritized in my experience both from FAANG and other high growth Bay Area companies. Just my two cents.
Seems like you got the job. Congrats! I am new to Fishbowl, and was researching Software Sales salary data as I am expecting an offer. My experience is extremely similar to yours. Could you share what Software Sales compensation is like in terms of base, OTE, and % return of revenue generated in terms of uncapped commission? I read somewhere that VMWare has it at 2% - $50 Mn business gets about $1 Mn commission.
