Need help from Amazon 🐠 Anyone interviewed for Amazon L5 BIE in GSF supply chain team? The JD said basic qualifications include data modeling, ETL, data warehousing and optimization. Any idea or experience how they will test these topics? Asking about related experience? Or show some data and ask how you will deal with that? Or like a case study, given a senario and ask how you think in order to tackle problem? Need advice/idea/experience urgently. Thanks in advance.Amazon @BIE

Based on your post I assume you ran into “unlimited PTO” has limits.
Over the last 10 years, I have worked 4 different organizations with unlimited PTO. Every company had the same limit… my PTO had to match my team’s needs.
Unlimited PTO is actually an accounting tactic. When a company gives a benefit (like 15 days vacation), this is a liability. It makes the company worth less. When you have unlimited PTO there is no liability.
Is it good for accounting? Yes. Is it still beneficial to the employee? Also yes.
It’s not a black and white perk, I personally use my time off and don’t wait to cash out when I leave, so being able to take a week off whenever I feel like it during the year, without accruing it, is worth it to me.
Yes, I would also like to know where I can get a job that pays me tons of money but I can just take most of the year as vaca. Oh and for the few days where I _do_ work, I want to be 100% remote so I don't ever have to see any of my colleagues. I feel as though in this competitive market for talent this should be no problem...

I travelled most of 2021 in South America, perfect time zone for east coast client. I didn't use any PTO until I returned to the U.S.. I just travelled by plane or car on weekends, worked during the day and made high quality internet a top priority. I never became a problem. I kept my tax base in the U.S.. I travelled to a country that welcomed remote workers. I was only limited by my visa time limit. I was transparent about it with my employer and clients. Having said that the client and employer were desperate for help. If you try to negotiate this it will be some company you've never heard of, probably not a prestigious client. Negotiate a livable salary, not top dollar. Make in win win for everyone.
Ukg has unlimited PTO but only if mgr approves, they pay for insurance premium, and other great benefits. Culture is sensitive, will go your mgr with no hesitation.
Applied Materials. My manager strongly encourages us to take 5 consecutive days each quarter and we are never discouraged from taking other days as well, plenty of holidays and very flexible hybrid environment. I work in the office one half day a week because my daughter is homeschooling. I’ve also had coworkers visit their families in other countries for up to a month at a time and just work remote some of the trip. Very flexible, but it does depend of your business unit needs and your manager’s style.
Worked at GE for a long time and once you settle in and depending on your manager, you can take time off at your will. They are also very flexible if you wanna work remotely while traveling
Vertafore. It’s a give and take though as the salary is a little lower than average but I think the culture and flex PTO policy makes up for it. I love working here!
Boeing
Boeing has unlimited PTO now?
Companies like that usually pay less than market rate, they usually offer unlimited PTO to compensate for low compensation.
It’s just so dependent on your role and your responsibilities. My manager strongly promotes taking time off, but for me to do my job, there are quarters where the deadlines are just too tight for me to take any significant time. The good thing with unlimited is I can flex it into a season or across year end…this summer I’m taking most Fridays and a week+ each month knowing the fall is going to be very busy. And then next year, my schedule will be lighter so I’ll take more time in the beginning of 2023. When it used to be tracked pto, it was hard to use up time before year end and I was always stressing trying to get it in when I didn’t really have the time for it. When the company switched to unlimited it was a relief.
My understating is that HubSpot pride themselves with the unlimited PTO and work culture. I’m just curious from your post that it seems like they don’t honor that benefit? Or is it a team by team situation?
In my experience they definitely do honor it! I am just interested to hear about other places that do the same.
What is your idea of “unlimited” though? Because I can’t think of many companies who would be cool with you taking 12 weeks off every year.
6-8 weeks, plus holidays, to me is “unlimited”. I’ve never worked anywhere that had more than 4 weeks of vacation and it was accrued, so 6+ weeks to me is a great perk.
GitHub calls it flexible PTO, not unlimited, which seems more fitting.
HubSpot has been on my watchlist for a while, is it possible to ask for a referral?
The catch with unlimited PTO is that you still have to deliver. If you can spend two weeks and bang out an improvement that saves or makes the company 10x your salary, you can take the rest of the review cycle off and get a top rating and bonus, and probably a promotion.
But if you take half a quarter off and don't deliver anything for the other half, people are going to ask uncomfortable questions.
