Looking for design book recs to buy as a gift for someone on my team. Someone bought me a book as a gift and I want to pay it forward.

Something they can read on the weekends or at night, without feeling overwhelmed (I don’t want them to feel like they need to work their way through a textbook after a day of work). Any thoughts?

I think the Universal Principles of UX is a nice book for all designers to have. It’s pleasing to look at and the concepts are broken down nicely. Nice little reminders about general design, too. It’s a feel good one. ☺️

Another nice one, that’s a little outside the box for most designers, is Jessica Hische’s In Progress book.

Oh, that’s a bummer. I wonder why. Thanks for letting me know. I’m notorious for lending out books and not getting them back so I should hang onto this one, haha.

Damn, I just realized that the more I try to progress in my career the further I step away from the realizing the ultimate truth that will lead me to merge with the infinite universe and truly become the infinite alpha god status just like the Buddha. It's a shame I have to rot away in a meaningless job in this atomic length of life I have in comparison to the time scale of universe.

Hi all,

Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both
KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.

Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.

Thanks!

Hi everyone. English is my second language. I understand the language, I can write relatively well, but I struggle when speaking. I'm not at all an elegant speaker. I sound so un-smart when I speak during meetings 🥺

Impromptu speaking is a nightmare. I struggle to find the right words for even the simplest things. I struggle to translate my thoughts into words.

I'm looking for advice on how to improve, or even book and course recommendations on how to become more articulate.

Offer 1: Non-profit financial advisor, awesome culture, design process & ethos align with mine, but still beholden to some outdated backend systems. Basically won't be able to innovate for a while

Offer 2: Consultancy focused on spinning up startups in large corp. Seems like cool work but I know very little about the culture/ process. Very sales-y HR but haven't talked to designers yet
