Looking for input from indy/RIA, wirehouse, B/D, Bank, Insurance folks all in one spot. If you have $50M wrapped at 1% (let’s just assume for this purpose)... what does that equate to for total comp?

You can find the full UBS payout grid online is you search...and I would assume for many of the other wirehouses as well... but for us, that scenario would basically work like this..... 50m at 1% = 500k gross. Payout rate on 500k is 39%. So 195k net to you. Then.. depending on how fast you are growing your business and how long you have been with the firm there are other bonus payouts. But that’s getting a little into the weeds. All w-2 comp

From an RIA perspective, you get 100% of what you bill. Every cost is shifted to you though - technology can be expensive if you buy robust financial planning and portfolio reporting software. E&O is on you, as are compliance costs. If you are considering this route I would start estimating every cost you can think of and then account for rent. You have some flexibility on how you want to be taxed. All said, you will probably end up fairly similar between IBD and RIA, but we chose RIA since it allowed us a significant amount of freedom to make our own choices. Wirehouses in my experience take a little more than the RIAs or IBDs but also offer a lot more up front money historically (though news stories would indicate that is changing).

92% payout... $460k... 1099 income.... pay own expenses (Office, assistants, e&o, etc...)... independent

And it would be helpful if you post with your firm so we can see the difference. Also if that’s 1099 comp or W2 comp.

I made 330k last year take home on a book of 50m fee and 60m retail (about 20m "dead")... salary and bonus. Never mind the 19% return on my LP... or the 11k profit sharing match pre tax into the plan AND the 8k profit sharing take-home.

Following. This is a great question.

Eddie Jones would pay you a total of about 200k w-2 and bonuses of approximately 30-40k in addition based off of office costs. In addition you are looking at two trips a year at 5-6k value a pop and a 401k profit sharing of about 8-10k. Total comp would be around 260k.

75% payout here. 1099. 375k.

This is a fantastic question, also following. Depends on your experience level here, but assuming you're 3 years in, $50M at 1% will yield $350k in 1099 comp. (this is not accounting for the higher payouts that you would have been qualified for if you consistently managed this much $$).

Would be about $362,500 with us, and depending on trailing production could be higher. Doesn’t account for additional AUM bonuses, and depending on length of service could be W2 or 1099. Most likely 1099. Similar to McAdam from the sounds of it.

Firm i am interviewing with is a midsize firm. I have 3 years of complex lit experience, they do simple property law. They need me for pre-lit only. No interviewers were able to discuss compensation, so they set me up with a phone call with the owner today. Owner never called. Part of me wants to send a passive agressive email telling them no thanks because they do not respect my time and another part of me wants to be understanding. What do i do?

Simple question. Pre-COVID tax revenues were in the toilet... huge deficit. Either party... what’s the plan? Basic math says you cannot make up the tax break given in this administration. Regardless of the party I’m just curious the thoughts even if you disagree with it. Payroll tax retirement affect social security - that won’t work. Only option is cut spending or raise taxes right? What’s a real plan folks can get behind that will work and is not rhetoric.
