Looking for inputs on career progression from experts. I am a PL/SQL developer (mostly in healthcare domain) from last 15 years and working remotely since last 5 years. I have some exposure of Cognos but many years back. Things are getting monotonous and I am looking for an advice to understand what related data technologies should I learn or certifications which will help in my career progression as not sure if PL/SQL is sustainable in a longer run.

How about Tableau and pivot to data analysis? I see a lot of people struggling to understand how data should be structured - and we all know that’s key to effective analysis. You could probably do well with front end stuff.

Thanks for the inputs , my manager asked me to learn Informatica which is used in my company at other teams but now I am getting demotivated sitting at home and looking to learn something new which can help with my job change as well.

M1, do you think Oracle cloud has much demand as I am more closer to Oracle ?

like

Oracle cloud isn’t as popular, as the big 3. You might get a lot of comments 💩 on it. Oracle cloud illicits quite a reaction here which is hilarious.

My POV is any hands on cloud experience is better than none. A lot of companies are multi-cloud anyway. Just know that Oracle cloud is quite a bit different.

Get on an Oracle cloud project if you can, but definitely learn one of the Big3 in parallel.

like

M1 and PS1 have great suggestions. I think you could also try to leverage your existing company to pivot over and try to get into other projects that might interest you.

Basically, check out what semi-relevant projects they’re working on that you’re not. Perhaps study up in those areas and see if you can learn enough to put yourself out there for a stretch role. That way you get paid to learn something new.

Currently have the FRM title.
I failed CFA level 3 once.

I'm hoping to eventually do CAIA, but only after I'm done with CFA. I'm also hoping to do non-financial certifications, like Certified analytics professional (CAP), and learn about web development.

While I may have the title of manager, I am still an individual contributor. The type of work I do involves quantitative analysis/data analysis/science.

Any suggestions as to what I should start with?

Looking at exits into pharma and biotech. Have an opp at a biotech at the SM level. Total comp excluding equity is around $190k; RSUs vest over 4 years with annual refreshers, so first year equity would be around $6,200 and it would go up by $6,200 each of the next 3 years, plus whatever base bump I get. Very good benefits package.

They envision 2-3 years before I jump either to AD or right to D. Solid opp? Or hold out to go straight to director level?
