My firm’s policy requires a minimum tenure in current role before interviewing and switching to another internal role. I’m in interview processes with other firms for the role I want, but would prefer to do that role at my firm. Is there a way to negotiate with HR about this? I understand I’d have more leverage with a final external offer. But I worry by then I’d not have time to secure internal offer by the time the external offer deadline comes. How would you approach? I am going to be starting a job working in an academic laboratory at a school in Western NY as a lab tech, and was offered 32k salary. I have a BS in Med lab science and have been working in clinical research for the past three years since school. Negotiating them to go higher has not been very successful so I’m hoping to get a sense whether this is a fair salary for my experience? I’ll be cutting my salary more than in half from my job in clinal research but trying to get into PhD program.
