Any tips for building a client base from scratch? I’m a 4th year associate at a firm of 12 attorneys. I practice in business, compliance, and real estate (primarily on partners’ files) and don’t litigate. Most of the partners’ clients are wealthy friends or friends of friends (not my circle). Associates are not referred business, even cold calls, and so far “networking” events like Chamber of Commerce luncheons have been a bust. I equate a book to autonomy and career choice and pressure is on.
Monthly rental car for project, drove around this weekend and notice scratches- what next? Will i be in trouble
Decided that I’m leaving audit today. Trying to understand the full range of opportunities in forensics. Will have my CPA and CFE. So far, I understand that there are client-serving firms like FTI and then the B4 will have forensics arms as well. What are some other forensic accounting roles? Pros and cons? Better than audit? Honestly just looking to learn anything.

I’m currently a Real Estate Analyst (graduated undergrad in May 2020) and I’m trying to pivot into tech preferably a financial analyst, product management or project management role. What's the norm for consulting firms during a shutdown? Do people on non funded projects usually get furloughed or kept on? Asking because I've been at a bigger firm that kept everyone on during the last shutdown, but I'm at a much smaller company now that is going to furlough on a project by project basis (if your project is shutdown, you get furloughed). Just curious if this is commonplace among smaller firms/what the norm is for bigger ones as well? What's been your experience?

Career advice: I became an HR mgr/BP relatively early on in my career so have 7 years BP exp. and 9 overall. I work in pharma as a Sr. BP/manager now. I’d like to make a move into an AD or higher role but seem to only get consideration for lateral moves. Not sure if it’s because I don’t have enough experience or if I’ve never had direct reports? How did you make that first jump? I’d need to relocate for anything at my current org which is not possible for me right now. Thanks for insights!
