Has anyone read any interesting books on how to approach QA?

On my team, software engineers end up creating test cases by writing up step-by-step guides for each ticket. QA employees follow these and innovate them where they can - but they ultimately need SEs to provide them A LOT.

This process seems dumb - the test cases disappear after the ticket is completed and I feel like QA isn't much of a professional role if they just follow guides provided to them.

Is there a better way?

I have over 10 years experience in design/marketing. The companies I worked for are small businesses (Less than 100 employees) so I’ve had to wear many hats (e-mail, print, social media management & ads, and very little google analytics and ads). I’m considering a change in career and would like to work fully-remote. I feel inadequate for the current workplace. I know no UX/UI, relatively no web design, no video experience. Is it imposter syndrome? Any tips or recommendations?

Hello Everyone! It has been three months since we moved after 20+ years in New York City suburbs. We probably bought our home at the peak. However, we are so glad we did it. Austin is a fantastic place and has so much to offer. People are so friendly and interesting. Lot of things to see. We live in Steiner and you can’t really can’t go wrong with bee cave, west lake, Leander or any of these suburbs. I highly recommend a home with a view and going into the city. What new languages or technologies are you learning and why?

Does anyone else think the RSU comp structure is a disincentive to work to your full potential? I know, for example, that my base comp is maxed out so my only raises will be through additional RSUs. They only grant new RSUs once per year and do it for years out in the future. So, for this year’s comp cycle, I got RSUs that won’t vest until 2023. Yeah, who cares? Who knows if I will even work here by then. There is no relatable tie in between performance and comp.

Anyone else HATE the word “full stack developer” in a lot of tech/LinkedI blog posts? the ONLy time I personally feel it is applicable is when it is being used to describe a developer in a specified domain— or more appropriately— for a specific company.

Ie: Amazon is ran by Java, SQL, and AWS for the most part right? so a full stack developer at Amazon would be competent in those “tech stacks”. However— when I see the word “full stack developer” used as a job title to describe broad categories
