Looking for some advice. Do you pursue a project opportunity with uncertain future but in an area that interests you, or stick with a long term project / client pipeline with clear path to promotion?

Take the unknown. Who joins consulting for the same thing every day?

like

I chose to take the unknown path. Have loved my job every single day of the last 6 months. But my priority is to like what I do, otherwise my performance dips. It's worked out ok so far

like

Stick to the long term project. If you're looking to stay in consulting, a promotion is a good thing, and if you're looking to leave consulting, a promotion is a good thing.

like

I would say take the promotion. Engage with the other area through thought leadership or proposals.

Depends on your confidence, risk tolerance and long-term goals

Cont. work on long term project is not in line with interests, but team is fantastic and promotion path is clear. Other opportunity is in an exciting space, but requires requesting release from current engagement, and unknowns around promotion path and team.

I'm in a similar boat as OP, and because it requires requesting release, I'm sticking with current engagement and applying to b school. Don't like the firm enough anyway

Take the unknown! If you wanted a predictable path, go into industry

Talk to your counselor. If you get stuck on the beach at least you have both talked about it :)

I'm I the same boat. I'm an oil &a gas SME with an amazing network and very supportive leadership that got me promoted twice so far. But the work makes me want to kill myself.

Seeking some guidance. If you have a client who has told you your firm is going to lose a contract, but they really like you and want to keep you on by telling the new firm they are bringing in to hire you so you can continue on with your work on the account, do you flag for your manager? Especially if you have no interest in leaving your firm. Also, your firm has already had it alluded to them by the client they will be losing the contract. Clearly, a very awkward situation.

Throwing this out there - I've transitioned into being a client running IMO/SMO and it's 1000x better. You kickstart the value creation initiatives mapped out with corp dev and do the cool initial brainstorming, then hand it off when execution gets heavy, work very closely with BU GMs to plan product integration roadmaps and commercial integration, work with G+A leads on Day 1/2 op models, then fling all the garbage work, PMO, status reporting to consultants. 10/10 recommended becoming a client.

Hello all, I'm currently in final rounds with Google and TikTok, plus potentially Meta and Blackstone for similar Analyst positions in different business functions. I have 1YOE experience as an L4 BA in Amazon with incoming promotion to L5 at Q2, and was given the top performance rating (TT). There will probably be a pay bump from all offers but not sure if it will beat promo. If I am trying to optimize for the most successful life outcome - assume I get all of them - what should I do? *o*

Hey Consultants, I have been doing the Juran Institute program for Lean Six Sigma Green Belt where you both take courses as well as apply the skills you learn to a project at your company. I finished the coursework a while back but have been having trouble finding a project topic that improves a process in my company, can be a 2-4 month project, and has the capability to impact substantially. I would love some ideas from individuals as I am stuck. Thanks!

Can someone explain EY independence? I’ve read conflicting information saying any EY employee must sell stock in any company audited by EY, but i’ve also read that if you are under Manager level and are not on a client engagement with that specific company, you do not have to sell the stock you own. Also, what are immediate family members defined as? And since trading stocks seems not feasible, can you at least trade crypto?

I am on an internal IT audit project. The manager in charge and the director have no IT OR Audit experience. I’ve done both internal and external audits. They both said not to rely on audit standards when discussing gaps with the client. How do you do this? Serious question

I’m trying to leave my project that I’ve been staffed on for over a year, but my lead won’t let me leave because I’m the only one who knows what’s going on. Also he delegates all his work to me! This project doesn’t align with my goals or skill set and I’ve stopped growing in the team. Can I tell him that staying on this team is bad for my mental health?
