Easy answer is to take ownership of the project, crush it, get it done quickly, and then have a convo with your boss so they know that this isn’t what you signed up for. Be a team player. You just joined the company - regardless of your background, you have to prove yourself and can’t throw in the towel just because it seems like lower level work. Good luck.
I would love it if my higher ups rolled up some sleeves and worked with us
That’s not their job. It’s yours!
OP - kill it first (& fast) and then let your P/ D know this ain’t done. I don’t necessarily buy into this “prove yourself” mentality - you’re being hired at a certain level based on your experience. If you’re being asked to pick up junior members’ work you have all the right to ask your P/D a straight question - “why?”. Clearly somewhere there’s been a fuck up and you’re being asked to cover for it - the least they can do is to explain why… trust is a two way street - if they trusted you to come in and perform, you too trusted them to offer you work suitable for your level. Exceptions are always there and must be handled as long as the principles are being laid out upfront. Plain and simple.
You got this 👊
If it's your team, why don't you have someone who can take on the work? Sounds like a good case to recruit and grow your team, rather than complain that you had to do the work yourself.
Totally hear you, OP. I echo others’ comments: Do it once. Nail it. Use it to expand your team.
