Looking for some advice. I’m an SM with 12+ yoe as a strategy director where I led large teams and relationships with Fortune 500 clients. I recently left for a new role which was going well, but a few weeks back I was asked to take on the work of someone 2 levels below me. This project is high priority for my team but the role itself feels like a big step back for me in terms of responsibility. How do I bring this up? Want to be a team player but also want to progress vs take a step back.

Easy answer is to take ownership of the project, crush it, get it done quickly, and then have a convo with your boss so they know that this isn’t what you signed up for. Be a team player. You just joined the company - regardless of your background, you have to prove yourself and can’t throw in the towel just because it seems like lower level work. Good luck.

I would love it if my higher ups rolled up some sleeves and worked with us

That’s not their job. It’s yours!

OP - kill it first (& fast) and then let your P/ D know this ain’t done. I don’t necessarily buy into this “prove yourself” mentality - you’re being hired at a certain level based on your experience. If you’re being asked to pick up junior members’ work you have all the right to ask your P/D a straight question - “why?”. Clearly somewhere there’s been a fuck up and you’re being asked to cover for it - the least they can do is to explain why… trust is a two way street - if they trusted you to come in and perform, you too trusted them to offer you work suitable for your level. Exceptions are always there and must be handled as long as the principles are being laid out upfront. Plain and simple.

You got this 👊

If it's your team, why don't you have someone who can take on the work? Sounds like a good case to recruit and grow your team, rather than complain that you had to do the work yourself.

Totally hear you, OP. I echo others’ comments: Do it once. Nail it. Use it to expand your team.

My friend is wondering how to approach a raise conversation with her new boss.

A data analyst on her team left so she’s been taking over that position on top of her regular job (spending ~50% of her time) and working a lot more now (40 hrs a week to 60 hrs). She’s not really interested in the data work, but she’s happy to do it if she can get a raise. How can she best approach this with a new manager that just joined 1-2 months ago?

I got to know someone thru work, and flirted a bit over 1 week. Then we never spoke again because of work geography. He reached out this week after 9 months+ asking for a visa sponsor to take a vacay in my country (given mobility restriction these days), and asked me to hook him up with a business visa referral letter thru my connections. He also said he’s coming with gf. I said im happy to write him a personal reference letter, but wont be able to get him a business one. Is this rude?

I spent the first few years out of school working in music before getting into advertising as an account person. Quickly realized it wasn’t for me. I think I’ll be a Senior CW soon, but it feels like most folks my age (30) have been in that role for a bit or already past it. Since I can’t turn back time, any tips for catching up?

Question re: salary. I’m thinking about accepting an offer at a small (4-6 attorneys) transactional firm. I would primarily be working on NDAs for clients. The role sounds great (no billable hours, fully remote, flexible hours/ can work from anywhere); however, the salary is $70K. I’m a new attorney, with only one year of experience. Does this salary seem low? If so, any advice on what someone in my position should ask for?

I need some legit feedback on what is it like to be a UXD at companies like Accenture?
They claim to do a lot of research oriented designs, as everyone. But is that really the case or it's like some other service based companies where the UX is almost vague, and happens mostly based on what the managers think to be good?

Does UX have any value or it's just drafting wireframes based on ideations by the managers and then UI designs?
