Looking for some advice on GMAT studying.

I’ve been studying really hard for the past three months (~20 hours per week) but I’m not even close to the 700 mark.

I went from 540 to 700 took one year and I planned for 6 months. Tutor made the biggest difference

Yes their forum has a huge list of questions posted by people which are all tagged with a source (like gmac, Kaplan, etc), difficulty (500, 600, 700), and subject (number properties, geometry, etc). In my targeted studying id try to solve the question and then use the explanations to help of I got it wrong or didn't understand it

Can you share how you achieved your 700+ score?

I’m doing focus area studying during the week (CR on Monday, Number properties on Tuesday on Tuesday, etc) with a practice test and review on the weekends.

Any suggestions to help my score are greatly appreciated.

What are your practice exam scores?

To be honest, all over the place. Recent high was 640 followed by an abysmal day at 570.

Stop doing practice questions and focus on mastering concepts. Go through a comprehensive Quant review (such as Manhattan guides) and make sure you understand concepts thoroughly - get a tutor if needed to explain them to you. Only after such a thorough review are practice questions useful.

Verbal.. SC is the same principle as Quant - grammar rules can be learned, so you need another detailed review (Manhattan SC is also good). RC.. try doing questions slowly and at whatever pace you need in order to understand them and answer them correctly - you can work on speed later. Same goes for CR

Really appreciate it. Thank you!

Dude same. Took managattan prep and bumped my quant to the mid 40s. Been studying hard for 3 months but that usually means like 1-2 hours a day.

Same story with the scores. At this point I think I have to put my applicant aspirations on hold for this round and aim for next year :(

1. Don’t bug out - a lot of this stuff takes time to sit in
2. 100% buy the Manhattan gmat advanced quant book
3. The biggest thing to increase reading is to just read books and newspapers all the time tbh
4. Study in the mornings when you’re fresh
5. Give yourself enough time to be calm
6. Figuring out your timing and staying calm if you fuck up is the key

Source: 750+ first try - most practice tests were 680 ish until the end

Just my thoughts from having taken it and scored a 780 last year
- start by understanding and mastering the key concepts. If it's been a while since you were in school it can take a while to even get used to doing the math in your head again so don't be discouraged
-focus on the most significant areas. things like number properties take up a significant portion of the test so it's worth knowing these.
-once you've gotten the concepts down, start on practice questions. I liked using GMAT club because it allowed me to focus on one question type and hammer it until I understood. For example id work on number properties 500-level until I understood them. then 600 and then 700.
- don't take a lot of practice tests until the final stretch. once you've taken one and gotten a base score focus on studying. they're good practice for the real thing but they're too broad to actually work as a studying tool in my experience, and they take up a ton of time.

good luck!

Can you explain more how you used GMAT club? Like their free resources?

Wow. Awesome reply. Thank you so much!

Hiya Guys, so I can tell I am burned out and inching into the grey pit of complacency. The burn out is already here, but the slide into grey-pit is not acceptable. I have a masters in business admin, 8+yrs of hospitality management experience, and a bachelors in science.

I really need advice/strategy for skill development, despite burn out and the weakened motivation. I am in a role that can, (in 2+ yrs), make me eligible to start at entry-level position in an area I want. I don't have 2 yrs.

Hello 🐠ies!
Asking for help, my sister has lived at my parents’ for 24 y and they’ve always taken care of her. She’s about to leave home for her grad and she just got a loan to pay for all her expenses for the next 3 y. The money only arrived 3 w ago. She hasn’t even left yet and my parents have noticed online deliveries and spending receipts. We are worried that she might empty her account by year 1 at that rate. But just telling her to be careful doesn’t help. Cont’d

When it comes to your job search:

1) How often/much do you get feedback from recruiters or whoever you just spoke with? Feels like we're always in the dark. One way feedback street.

2) Who do you like to work with? Headhunters vs internalrecruiters? Is the experience different?

3) Have you had to align your interviews so that the offers would come in close/same day? What's your strategy?

4) What's your process in weighing [multiple] offers? If that ever happens? Where do you keep your notes?

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's ALM in Management. They both have the same requirements (generally speaking) including a capstone course that serves as a field immersion course with the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?
