Do you have the offer in writing? I would not worry about the background check, unless there is something in your background you are concerned about. But I would make sure you have a written offer vs a verbal one before you give notice.

like

Normally I do not give notice until I have the written offer letter which I would sign it and then send back to the company.

Unless its stated in your offer letter in your current company that you must give a specific amount of notice, you can give the courtesy of 2 weeks.

like

I was told up to two weeks for a background check and it took three days. So you might get something sooner. I wouldn’t stress too much if you can’t give more than two weeks, but definitely make sure you CYA with the offer and background check cleared first. Congratulations on the new role!

like

Do you have a notice period written into your contract? I do, but it might not be that easy for everyone.

I let my manager know I'd received a job offer, which was then about 6 months before I had my last day (unexpected delays with prior place). I wouldn't advice being over generous, unless you need to leave ASAP and have a long notice period contracted

like

Ah ok that's much shorter than mine was, hmm I've no useful advice then apart from try to guage the response of your line mangers, HR and colleagues. What sort of thing have others in your company done, and are there any risks? Of course it's natural to want to leave helpfully 😊

Don’t say anything until you have signed the written offer and your new employer has confirmed they have received it

like

Wait until you've passed the background check and all that, THEN give notice after you have the written offer and a start date.

What’s your PTO like? I just started a new position with a $25k increase in salary from my previous role, great benefits (besides PTO), and a good environment …. But I start with 0 hours of PTO and accrue up to 12 days over the course of a year. Am I crazy or is this terrible for a tech position? My previous role, which I hated, had unlimited PTO which we were encouraged to use.

Waiting for an offer and new company wants my partner and I to start ASAP. I’m off until the new year so can’t resign until then. They’re really pushing for an earlier start date and want me to resign while I’m on vacation. Is it a red flag that they’re so eager? They don’t seem like they want to compromise.

This holiday season is depressing. I usually stay so busy with parties and visiting family, but this year we’re just at home. It’s more relaxing, but I miss everyone. Also, my feelings are hurt because I didn’t receive any Christmas gifts this year though I spent over $1,000 on gifts for my family and spent weeks wrapping everything.

I am going on vacation June 15-30th. If possible I’d still like to get my PTO days in. Do I give my two weeks the day I come back? Should I talk to my manager now and let them know I’m wavering so they have time to react? I have specific duties that will need to be reassigned.

FDX - FedEx is one of my losers this year. I got in recently, late in the trend. I like their management, but shouldn't have moved in from R. FDX did 11% T3M and 78% TTM. The IVs are moderately high, so I expect to get positive as the technicals bounce from their lows. The MCAD has been a good predicter in the past.
This is a great example of the longs losing money, but the shorts almost covering it. Notice the P/L Open for each and the P/L for the year.

My view: about 30%. That is still a great number, because it’s far higher than zero.
