Was opening my car door and accidentally hit the car next to me, left a tiny tiny dent/scuff on the area above the rear passenger tire. They came out of the car and wanted to get my phone number, insurance information, etc to file a claim. The extent of the “damage” is honestly laughable and I hope they don’t actually file a claim. Told them I'd prefer to just work outside of insurance if they really want to get that fixed.
Honestly I feel like they would have to be VERY petty if they actually follow through with going to a body shop to get a quote and make me pay for it. I know it’s technically my fault, and I did apologize, but they have scratches on their car that are far worse and you can barely see the scratch. Any overall suggestions/tactics with dealing with this would be helpful. They only have my phone number, name, and license plate #. They don’t have my driver’s license or insurance info.

Did you take a pic of the damage?
A pic of the mark and their other damage would be super helpful. Mobile repair guys take out stuff like that for $300. A body shop will want to replace the panel for $3,000. If they just want a little cash then its a good lesson for you.
Understandable. But would someone really want to go through all that hassle and also run the risk of adding a car accident to their car record? I don’t know, personally I wouldn’t want that headache along with the impact to resale value
