Looking for some thoughts on the pros/cons of contract work/temp-to-perm roles VS full time direct hire? I’ve been an EA for 30 years and have always been direct hire. I am now on the market and being approached by a lot of contract opportunities with seemingly good rates. Aside from the obvious lack of health insurance, are there other downfalls to contract work? Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.

Sorry to hear that whoever with your experience you will find something soon☺️contract are meant to support the organization on short term basis. Some contract employees do become permanent. The contract can end sooner than expected. It’s also good opportunity to try something new or different. If you received a severance package you can look at changing career

Coming up on promotion eligibility- what should I be looking for?

Background: I’m in an engineering role where there only two of us for the entire organization, I could theoretically get promoted 4 or 5 times before I “cap out.” I started at the lowest level making ~70k. I know other organizations offer the next level at around ~90k. I really like my employer and ability to be fully remote, so I don’t necessarily want to switch companies.

My question is, what raise value would be too low?

Early 40s. No debt. Currently have ~50yrs worth of [annual expenses+15%] between savings, investments and 401k (not including future social security). Current savings ~1.5yrs [expenses+15%], 401k ~12yrs [expenses+15%], and investments ~37yrs [expenses+15%]

At what point would early retirement be a serious consideration for you, given no interest in increasing expenses (other than inflation) or any other substantial changes, with satisfaction in life outside work?

I work in a consulting firm for more than 12 hours everyday. Sometimes, I have to work on weekends too. I am with the firm for last 1.5 years and did not practice coding (Data Structures and Algorithms) and I was into data science before getting placed at my current company.

I am completely burnout and when I tried to push myself to study hard and switch the job, my health became worst.
