I've been trying to figure out why my paper is still marked as "in review" even though I submitted it 4 months ago. I even submitted a new version of the paper, and they said they'd review it within 2 weeks, but still nothing!

I am a nuclear physicist and every time I am asked what I do and I answer the question, the next comment always comes in a mocking tone: "so you make bombs? Startup staffing question…do you think it’s professional/ethical to check references for multiple candidates before making an offer? Just had a company ask for my references and then tell me that they’re still reviewing four candidates. I never would’ve offered my manager if I knew in advance.

Has anyone experienced an exit where the newly emitted shares (primary) and shares bought by the founders (secondary) are valued differently? Is this common practice? What’s a typical valuation ratio? We have a potential investor who wants to structure the deal like this.

Any good recommended books on how to build a scalable product and team? I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project. I've been promoted into a management role from Dev roots, so need to learn more PM processes to be an effective manager in day job, plus would like to start building my own SaaS solution.

We don’t really have any users, but we’re not sure if we should first try to secure funding (without users) or build up the user base first then go for funding. How much value do VC’s place on users before funding and how many users would they like to see for preseed funding. Any feedback is appreciated.

Considering an exit to a startup that just completed a solid series B. They’re willing to provide competitive comp package and surprised how large the base is for a startup. Has me concerned about being on the high end and being the first person that comes to mind when it’s time to pinch a few pennies or clean up the books ahead of future rounds/IPO. Valid concern or am I overthinking it?
