Looking for tips to help generate my own client base when I work in a rural area for a firm where the only lawyers are myself and my boss. I’m a relatively new lawyer and with his name on the door it makes it hard to get new clients because everyone wants to deal with the name partner. I’m a GP with bulk of my work being real estate, wills, estate admin and civil litigation. I also have a big interest in agricultural law and contract drafting.

Deliver free presentations on the importance of estate planning at places like the library, churches, or community center. See if restaurants have a bulletin board where you can post a flyer. Purchase an ad in a church bulletin. Show up at any and every community event so that people start to recognize your face. Leave business cards and flyers at the market or grocery store.

I know your partner carries the name, but if you're pulling your weight, you should be able to be the face of the business. I'd expand upon the breadth with which you aim for when it comes to new clients. It's a numbers game for starters.

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. With everyone you meet, let them know what you do. You can't wait for your firm to send you clients because you will always be at the end of the line. When you meet anyone--at restaurants, grocery store, meetings--and it's appropriate, give out your card.

Make sure to let your boss know what you want to explore. I'm sure he will support you. Best of luck, OP!

However, there are no historical or category benchmarks and we are in the brand awareness/audience building phase; they understand that we will do retargeting later. They do not want to drive online conversions on their website. We will have some sponsored product advertising (ex. Instacart) later on.

I need some words of wisdom from this esteemed bowl. I have been an associate for almost 2 years in civil litigation with my bread and butter being family and marital law. Venting… I had a PC reach out last week for services (commercial real estate) who proceeded to tell me that their project is going to make me the “gold standard” , so rich and etc. further they wanted me to send them a plan of everything needed for all the phases of development and an estimated cost. The call completely drained me and rubbed me the wrong way. Then they brought up my age and me being younger, saying it’s an opportunity of a life time. It felt extremely condescending.

My annual billable target is 1400. However, since I’ve been here I’ve barely broken 1000 despite working my ass off. I bill out at $375. They told me no more raises unless I start taking my own cases. Now they just hired a new associate and are paying him $170k and he takes his own cases. Am I being unreasonable asking for $130k?
