The Press Hotel in Portland, Maine was an awesome, summer weekend getaway.

like

I’ve heard this too! They’re fully booked for most (if not all) weekends this summer though.

Asheville! As long as “things to see” includes nature - lots of hikes in the blue ridge mountains and great food/beer scene

like

Black Mountain, NC is a short drive to Asheville. The Red Rocker Inn is a fantastic B&B, also serves evening meals with the best Southern Food around, including Peach Cobbler.

Montage in Bluffton, SC, absolutely terrific. Or a place in like Rodondo Beach or next door south of LA, one of the smaller hotels right at the beach walk. Beautiful area. Or Santa Barbara. Or Monterey or Carmel in CA. I’m a big SoCal fan, but it’s beautiful up there. Depends a little bit on what you’d like to do. Explore and go outdoors. Or hang out at the hotel to relax?

helpful

Forgot to add - trip would only be 3-4 days. Ideally, a nice mix of relaxing and enough things to see, eat, and do (in that order of importance)

If you’re going in the next couple of weeks, go to New Orleans, Charleston, Key West, or Savannah. A 3-4 day trip is perfect for any of those places, and it’s not dead-of-summer hot yet. Most of the restaurants and sights are reopened but won’t be too crowded yet.

In mid-July, I’d head further north to Newport/Block Island, the Cape, Martha’s Vineyard, or Nantucket (though MV and Nantucket can be a pain to get to if ferry reservations aren’t available).

Nantucket or Martha’s. Beautiful. But again, depends on what you’d want to focus on activity-wise. Or Camden up north or Kennebunk. Cute!

Following - want to do a 3-4 day trip Fourth of July weekend with what OP described

Charleston is great! Though too hot right now. Your best bet is Maine over the summer but everything’s booked up in the hot cities there right now - I just tried to plan a weekend trip and everything but the Aloft in Portland is booked unless you can afford $400+/night.

Maybe DC or Boston as happy mediums, since there are enough hotels/restaurants there with capacity?

Lake George is amazing

I’ve realized that all of my male friends that make $400,000 or more annually without debt have qualities that are almost antithetical to what I think many Black women are looking for. They’re engineers, scientists, and physicians. They invest aggressively, they work on weekends, they don’t drink much, don’t party, don’t brunch, don’t go out much, really only travel once a year, dress conservatively. They’ll have more in common with Mark Zuckerberg’s vibe (Black or White)
