Looking for your best study tips, recommended study schedules, any sort of words of encouragement as I plan to request my Becker study materials soon! I am a career changer and after completing my accounting degree almost entirely online due to COVID, I don’t have many people to discuss the exams with :(

There’s only “Becker Study Groups” on Facebook for each exam with are helpful and good place to find community. Also, another 71 has a forum Thats interesting to read!

I would recommend joining CPA subreddit group, I wish I knew about that when I started my CPA journey. If you are in IL you can start taking your CPA exam provisionally (look into that). Take it one at a time and treat it like school/job. If you’re serious about it and you put in the time you will pass them without a doubt. Why don’t you get your credits evaluated and don’t apply for the NTS until you’re half way through the fist exam study material. IL ILBOA and NTS gets turned over in a few days each so doesn’t take that long. Good luck and the test are not impossible unless you make them impossible. Like everything else if you study and put in the hard work you can knock it out! FAR overlaps with Audit, so a lot of ppl recommend taking Audit after FAR. REG is the most different from all of them. All the best!

My advice is start with the exam that you want to start with. A lot of people say to start with far because it takes the longest to study. I started with reg though because I was having the hardest time having the desire to study. I really enjoy tax and did my master degree with an emphasis in tax. So I wanted to use that to my advantage and not lose all that knowledge that I gained if I waiting to take it at the end. Also, have you applied for your NTS? If not, start that soon. they are taking longer to receive because of covid. Mine took about 3 months. (This was a few months after covid started, I’m not sure how long they are taking now.) Mostly likely when you get Becker, it will be the full version(assuming you are at one of the big four that pays for it), only physical request the material for the exam you are studying for. I requested a book, but didn’t end up studying for it until a couple months later and it is now out of date because the test got updated. Luckily all the online materials get updated, so I just used that book.

Thank you! This was really helpful. I am in IL, so not sure if this is the same process everywhere, but the first step is to submit the domestic evaluation application, correct? I am not eligible until I complete my degree in March, so I assume that I cannot submit that until then. ILBOE says it takes 8 weeks for approval. Next would be the NTS? That also says 8 week approval. While Im waiting during this time, can I be studying for my first exam? Good to know that I can request each section separately with Becker — had no idea.

I've worked from home since March of 2020. I am nervous to go back to the office. I know it will be an adjustment to get to a hybrid schedule. But... I'm also really relieved. I think that WFH has negatively impacted my marriage. I know things won't go immediately back to where they were pre-Covid. And I'm nervous about not seeing my toddler as much and how my dogs will do. But I'm excited for this new chapter.

Haven’t had my nails done since pre Covid. My cuticle are grown out, it’s bad and I’m scared to go to salon. But I have an event in less than two weeks. I am afraid they’ll push and cut my cuticle and I’ll get a million hang nails. Should I go twice in two weeks and ask them to ease into it. Or should spend first week prepping my nails/cuticles and then get them done right before the event? I am not good at doing my own nails.

What type of self help strategies do individuals actually find helpful when you feel burn out or stuck in a rut? Any books, apps, meditation, podcasts, etc, others find helpful? I've done therapy and it has definitely helped this past year with covid and a marriage separation, starting to feel like I'm making progress and want to keep up the momentum. Looking to see what type of self help others find actually beneficial and would love to use that to help others stuck in burn out too

Would love some opinions, moms. Because of covid, I’ve kept my kids home since March 2020. I predict we will not have spent $5k on dependent care in 2020 that we elected last year. Almost but not quite. It’s open enrollment time, should I elect the some amount for 2021?

Got promoted to senior but did not get a raise to go with it. Firm keeping salaries flat this year due to COVID-19, but I was shocked when I found out promoted staff wouldn’t be getting a raise either. To me, this whole thing rings hollow because the firm has told us multiple times that they were projecting flat growth for the year when compared to last year (which was one of the best in firm history). So it pisses me off that they shot their mouth off about how great year last year was...cont

Very specific question - Canadian and European spouse travelling to Canada from Europe. However, spouse’s ETA not approved. Embassy told us all we need is proof of marriage and my citizenship (CDN passport) to travel. Asked embassy about ETA and they said “we don’t have an answer you should be fine”. Anyone with experience dealing with this during COVID? Should we try and fly?

I have always dreamt of living abroad. A few years in Europe, and then APAC. Transfer plans fell through with covid, and I’m pretty sure they will be delayed due to Delta. Turning 25 this month and feel like that dream is getting farther away. I’ve always been ambitious, but as I’m getting older I’ve realized traveling and exploring other cultures is what truly makes me happy and that’s what I want to use my career in tech to fund. I know this is a first world problem, but has anyone done this?

I need perspective. I was scheduled for a bunch of spa services today before a vacation. Early in the morning, a spa lady calls me to reschedule. I tell her I can’t reschedule due to my job. She replies that she remembers me mentioning that from a previous appointment she “helped me rescue.” She never acknowledged knowing me prior to that comment. I was offended as it came across as judging my stress level and availability based on a service I received years ago. Did I get unreasonably upset?
