Sounds like you’re shopping rather than adopting
I was pointing out your use of adopt/adoption is misplaced. Just say you are buying or getting a dog
Not sure where you are located but do not get a dog from an Amish “breeder.” Also, do not use a backyard breeder or pet store (most, if not all, are from puppy mills). If you want a Golden, consider breed rescue (go to Petfinder.com) or a reputable breeder.
Not an expert by any means but a dog lover. What type of energy level / maintenance / size of dog are you looking for?
Looking for a golden. Trying to better understand the health reports and akc data given by the breeder.
Can you read/understand those metrics?
Agreed - google the breeder and confirm that they’re an established breeder recognized by AKC with a good track record and good reputation. If you don’t find any information (or only limited/recent information) that’s a red flag. Often the AKC keeps a directory of breeders which is a great place to start.
Also talk to the breeders you’re considering! A responsible breeder will help educate and talk you through health issues. Many responsible breeders will also offer some kind of “warranty” if a puppy ends up having major unexpected health issues. A responsible breeder is there as a resource for the life of your dog, not just through the puppy handoff.
Also you likely already know (or have discovered) this, but good responsible breeders often have a waitlist that can be over a year. I’m not here to judge - but you can also think about adopting a golden from a breed-specific rescue, directly from a breeder who is retiring a dog from breeding and/or showing, or a service dog dropout. These can be great dogs often between ages 1-5 where they’re already house-trained etc and you know more about their health. Just something to consider.
