Start with use case then go to price range. Just looking for something to tool around in or do you need to go places? Are we talking $50k or $50M (you mentioned a number of biz jets so I’m assuming your price range stretches that far)?

Also, how much plane are you willing to stay current on? Stick and rudder skills are perishable and you need to fly regularly to stay proficient. I realized a long time ago that I don’t have the time to dedicate so I will only fly in perfect weather and never depend on flying myself to get anywhere, but if you invest in a serious airplane I’m guessing you’ll try to fly it places. Are you able to put in the time to fly safely and exercise the discipline to blow up your schedule if the weather is bad? Buying a high performance airplane as a brand new pilot is has consistently throughout history been an excellent way to kill yourself.

Which, hey, a Cessna can be a very very nice airplane. I’d love to own a new 400 or a well kept 206 (and yes, know they are very different airplanes). Price wise, both are within reasonable-ish daydream distance in terms of being affordable on a BCG partner salary. Just about any GA piston aircraft is doable if you are a reasonably successful partner and prioritize buying a plane. We are talking prices in the few hundreds of thousands to 1 point something ish.

Business jets like a Gulfstream or Dassault are an order of magnitude higher. Even a turboprop commuter like a PC-12 is several times more. There’s no way a consulting partner can afford a $25M jet plus operating costs. A $4M Pilatus might be doable for a very successful partner with no other spending priorities I suppose.

I had to read this twice and I'm still amazed - BUY a freakin airplane???? (I'm from a middle class background and this is amazing to me)

@OP depends on your use case. 3000 hours here, 800 in planes I owned. Stay away from the jets unless you’re looking for transcontinental or true bi-coastal. Personal preference would be for a PC-12 for balance of ease of maintenance, low op cost, relative speed, short field versatility, and weight capacity.

Also, I answered above as though the question were serious but I highly doubt many (or any) consulting partners make Gulfstream money.

Looking for advice… we have a high maintenance VP in our organization (not HR), and he is also a micromanager to his entire team and me. He is always asking me to break my process for him, and Do for 2 things and now he’s asking for more. My VP and others don’t seem to want to tell him No. I want to because of obvious reasons, but am concerned I won’t be backed up. Saddest part of the story.. he’s one of the DEI “leaders”, and is such a chameleon in those meetings vs. daily interactions. SOS
