Looking to do a road trip at the end of the summer across the west (MT/WY/UT/AZ etc.) and trying to decide between renting a camper van or renting an SUV and doing car camping/airbnb's. Campervan seems real expensive vs rental car but could be comfier. Any advice from the bowl?

If you are looking to do the national parks plenty of them have roads you can’t go down in an RV/camper so I’d do the SUV

like

If you want to hike, get an SUV. Forest roads, as OP mentioned, tend to be potholed and gravel, generally terrible to drive on - you’ll have a lot more fun and a lot less stress with the SUV. Can always stick a tent on the roof too ;)

like

You won’t have any issues driving on roads with a pro master/transit/sprinter camper van. If you want to camp I would definitely get a camper van over car camping. If you don’t want to camp then get a fuel efficient car if you’ll be driving a lot. There are benefits to having the camper van - there are so many free campgrounds in those areas. It’s really up to you and what kind of experience you want. There are cheap hotels and Airbnb’s too if you want your creature comforts

I agree with consultant 1 that you won’t have issues on most roads with a sprinter or similar. They also make some very capable vans which I would encourage to get a full experience of (lavish) van life.

That said, this assumes you are a normal-ish visitor and aren’t doing anything too gnarly. I live out that way and spend a lot of time in Utah, WY, ID driving on unpredictable forest service roads. You would have no problem as long as you are planning to stick to popular areas not too far off main roads.

Thanks gang! Would like to hike and do some camping, but also would like to stay in a motel/Airbnb every few days, but good to know I won't be limited in where I can go if I do a campervan - not looking to do anything too gnarly, probably regular touristy stuff

Sounds good!

Boss has WFH for 9months. I have been WFH for 2-weeks for travel quarantine/state guidelines. She now requires that I go back to the office to “show face” that HR is right alongside the essential employees. I have been more productive from home vs the office. I get the perspective of team unity, but is it wrong to feel there is no reason to risk my health? The company justifies increasing my covid risk (high-risk already) to “show face”, when my job is being fulfilled while WFH. Am I crazy?

Question for moms. I’m getting married next year and have several close family members that will have babies ages 8-11 months old by then. What are some ways I can support the moms and make it an enjoyable experience for them? We have a separate room at the venue that I was thinking could be offered to the parents to use, or potentially hiring a babysitter for them (either at the venue or back at the hotel). I would love for the families to be able to come, as it is out of town.

Can someone walk me through the Do's and Don't's of AA miles? I think they're a joke.

I have 65k miles and I could only pay for a one-way ticket from PHX-JFK. I had to book 1 leg with miles and the 1 with cash, but booking the other leg in cash was about 80% of the round trip in cash.

My mom has 12k miles that expire soon, transferring them would cost me $450. I can pay for a round trip with that cash but I can only pay for a trip to my kitchen with those 12k miles.

What am I doing wrong? 😂

I have to travel to my client every week and the client’s office is attached to a very nice hotel that’s $250 per night. There’s a hotel right across the street that’s $150 per night.. it’s alright, but not as great. Should I be mindful about how much I’m spending or should I blow up the budget until someone says something?
