Seiko and Hamilton are smart choices. Can’t go wrong
Sinn 556 is a perfect entry level daily watch imo. (Left)
New is like $1400 but used can be had under $1k.

Sinn 556 is a great looking and versatile watch.

What kind of watch, eg diver, dress, pilot, etc?
If you primarily like divers, tons of nice micros. NTH and Zelos are the brands I’d most recommend with them making some very nice watches in the $700 range. Zelos also makes some cheaper ones that are exceptional value, eg their 40mm swordfish launching tomorrow for $269.
NTH had new devil rays out last week (a 70s cushion case style diver) but I think they’re sold out already. They have a bigger diver, 44mm coming out in a couple weeks that looks really cool with big applied 3-6-9 markers a la an Explorer I.

P1, please, just the micro guy. I can’t say I want to be known as the EY anything. Maybe the Parthenon micro guy.

I’d probably be looking for an Oris; either a Divers 65 or a ProPilot.
Contact Timeless Luxury Watches in Texas and see what they have in pre-owned. Mention “John from the Future” and they’ll definitely hook you up (even on a new one!).

The black “tropic” rubber is the best.
I’d also suggest looking at Tissot in that price range - some Powermatic 80s and the Visodate are really good (and the movements especially in the Powermatic are very very good).
Some basic Longines are also going for that price - otherwise you could look at vintage Omegas, but I’d leave that till you know more about watches
I disagree, but each to their own - Seiko and Hamilton push further up in the quality/price range than Tissot, but I think Tissot beats them relatively easily in the sub-grand range. Again, preferences?
Nomos Tangente or Club.
Christoper Ward also makes a great sub $1000 watch
