My exact thoughts

Big 4 will hire you if you have a CPA and a pulse

like

No I didn’t meant that I was trying to say that I am in contact with professionals and it is just matter of time that someone from recruiting team contact me after receiving my resume. I have to keep forwarding my resume and find an opportunity until then. Also I am on OPT work authorization that makes it much harder to find a job right now.

Why didn’t you go to public accounting straight out of college ?

like

I am looking somewhere in NY/NJ area but I am open to relocating. I am interested in either Assurance/Tax service line but not limited to it.

like

Go for big four

I'd wait for your 1 year mark and try to get in as an experienced hire.

Get in contact with some of your old college professors, they’ll be able to help you. If you were a good student

like

Adding on - it may be helpful to ask professors you are close with if they have anyone in their network you can be connected with. Reach out to your own network and see if people you know can connect you with public accountants they know. Ask for informational interviews to learn about their career, grab coffee. Having recruited post-grad myself, I reached out to any recruiters or employees I had networked with while in college. For recruiters, email them to explain your situation and that you gained experience and passed the cpa during that time. Unfortunately, not all will respond, but keep trying - having a connection with someone internally will bump your chances.

Hop on LinkedIn and start connecting and emailing

Yup I am on LinkedIn and doing that

Everyone is always hiring. Congrats on the exam. You need to consider what you want. If you want to work at a public company go big 4. If you want private go with someone outside the big 4. Up to you bud

Hey! I’m new here and would like some input. I’ve been working in a new position for almost 5 months. In that time I’ve witnessed some unethical and lots of unprofessional behavior. I’ve been yelled at and berated by my coworker 3 separate times because of minor errors. I’m ready to quit. There are so many major issues in this company that I don’t know if I want to subject my mental health to this degree of toxicity. I just don’t know how to move forward from here.

I have had some of the most toxic experiences this school year and been gaslit by admin and thrown under the bus at every opportunity by other staff members to the point of them LOUDLY talking about me in the halls. I was put in a leadership role this year and I've tried my best and have been told it wasn't good enough and to quit while I'm behind. Am I alone in the toxic, gaslighting, and downright mean girl type environments in education lately?

Any thoughts on what to do with savings before grad school? I'm a few years out from undergrad and have $50K saved. When I go to grad school, I assume I will be expected to spend all of it on tuition and other costs (given I don't want to go the sponsored graduate school route and return to my firm). For ladies that have been in this position, what is the wisest way to use these savings in this situation?

In my second busy season of PA (2 years ago), auditing a specialty finance company that we all quickly came to realize stunk to high hell. We ended up issuing an adverse opinion over a disagreement with the client to book an approx. 100MM write down adjustment to deferred revenue. We walked away with the thought that we had just scratched the surface of their corruption. Fast forward 2 years and low and behold they’re under a 1.2B dollar investigation by the SEC and their CEO is in prison.

I doubt anyone in here is actually a partner but would someone know the logistics of becoming a partner?
E.g you are informed that you can be elected into the partnership. What's next? Is there a "buy-in" and is that the same for everyone or depends how much "ownership" of the firm you want. What about "salaries". I know once you make partner you no longer are considered an employee and that your pay is based on how well the firm does. So do you still have a consistent salary? Still biweekly?

Can't believe I'm saying this but I'm thinking about a boomerang back into public accounting. Spent a year in industry and I miss audit, the variety, the hussle of busy season. Left public after 7 years.

Tell me I'm crazy? Current job isn't as many hours, but we're basically "busy" all year rather than a concentrated season or two.

Anyone in B4 Audit gone into any military branch as a reservist around the S2-S3 mark? Been heavily considering it as a supplemental retirement/benefit cushion and requires a minimal monthly time commitment + a few weeks in the summer when I’m usually the lightest with my public jobs. The firm HAS to allow it, but I know it could slightly delay certain promos. Any advice? Especially if I’m considering partner track…? I’d retire military at 47 and still have 10-15 yrs as a partner full time.
