I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. Evaluating a job offer (yay!)
I have 8 years of HR experience, no college degree, and no HR certification. Titles held have been HR Specialist, HR Administrator, HR Generalist, Associate HR Manager, and most recently, HR Director for only four months (toxic). Geographically speaking, salaries are not very high. I was offered $45k in an hourly role as a site HR rep for a hotel with about 50 employees in a bustling college town. Should I try to negotiate more pay? Any input is appreciated.

Week 2 at new company that goes off Chinese custom. Most employees are Chinese citizens on visa. I noticed something odd about some of their employment agreements, they are paid 85% salary during probation of 6 months. If performance is good, they get the full 100% after month 6. I personally have never seen this, nor do I think this is legal in the US let alone WA/CA. Trying to get them up to compliance but this one has me stumped. My gut says this is illegal. All employees are engineers.
