Dallas or Chicago
The first is access to the scholarship/leadership in the US. I know there have been issues in the past 2 yrs or so but still greater than other parts of the US.
The second would be the weather. I think the weather really allows the community to mobilize better for events/activities than NJ & Chi where once winter hits, things are indoors/less frequent. The weather also attracts people from all over so faster growth.
The third thing would be space, which allows communities in TX to build bigger/more ameneties in masjids/community centers. I feel like this isn't as big a problem as masjids in NJ are slowly building more facilities but its still there.
I currently live in NJ but have visited all 3 and just somethings I picked up on.
I think it really depends on what you’re looking for. Chicago/NJ/Dallas all have large and active communities. You’ll also find this in places like Orange County in California or Michigan. I’ve heard Raleigh, NC has a strong community that is active as well. Its relatively smaller than those above, but its a pretty safe place and good for families. I would also look into Atlanta and in the DC/Virginia/Maryland area. They all have pretty good and active communities and are less bustling than Chicago/Jersey. I would reach out to any friends you may have in regions of interest and visit to get an idea.
Washington DC metro area, esp. Northern Virginia.
Massive Muslim community of all sects, nationalities, languages spoken etc, limitless halal food options of all cuisines, super quick flight back to Toronto whenever you need to go back . You really can’t go wrong there.
Where are you based now?
Toronto
Muslim factor aside, DC area is much better than Dallas. Dallas is bland, boring and a major sprawl.
In DC you will never run out of things to do, the free museums alone are a major plus.
And I’d argue the DC area Muslim community is larger and more diverse than that of Dallas
I’d recommend the following, DC, Jersey, or Chicago. All have large Muslim communities, with strong economies and most of all, people are open and accepting versus places in the south. Texas is okay, very hot and boring, and a lot of prejudice- I would not recommend it for a Muslim family, despite what others have said above. They don’t call it the “Bible Belt” for nothing.
Chicago, Jersey, Dallas, or Houston
what firm OP?
I have not decided anything yet. Just exploring it right now.
Where in jersey tho?
NJ has a great Muslim community in North and Central, Masjids like MCMC, NBIC, ISCJ just to name a few
I'd go Dallas, good community and Central as a consultant traveling
I'd say Dallas as the first choice due to the great community especially for the youth. After that, Jersey and Southeast Michigan are amazing choices. Halal food is incredibly abundant in all locations with great masjids and schools in both areas.
What about Bay Area?
