These aren’t comparable roles

No offense, OP, but you seem very turned around.
PE positions are generally one of the more-coveted (and therefore challenging) positions to land in all of the business landscape. Fundamentally, front-office PE roles are a mix of finance and commercial strategy.
Your best shot at landing a reputable PE role is to go through an investment banking stint.
The next best option would be to go through a top management (ie strategy) consulting firm. McKinsey historically places the most consultants into PE, for example. S& is a strategy consulting firm, so this could start leading you down the right path.
Without going back for an MBA, an M&A-related service like FDD or DVV could POSSIBLY be another route get you there with solid networking and interview/modeling skills.
I’d spend a few hours researching how to break into PE before trying to decide on your next role. Good luck!
No problem at all, I appreciated your suggestions. Right now I just need to find a way to get out of my current job and into something more relevant to my long term career goals
S& is a way more powerful name. Personally if you can get into S& I would do that
CMAAS will not give you exit opps to PE as you’ll still be a technical accountant and not gain any diligence or modeling experience. S& (specifically under deals strategy) will give you the chance to exit to MM PE if you network/interview well.
Awesome I will look into those as well, thanks a ton
I would consider a diligence role if you can swing it. You will have direct interaction on a daily basis with PE and I banking professionals. I’ve known several folks go FDD -> IB -> PE. It’s a circuitous route, but definitely possible
Thanks I appreciate the response, I will for sure consider that route
