Looking to move from a mid-sized NYC firm to AMlaw 100, bankruptcy and restructuring. Anyone have a recruiter they have worked with that helped in a similar scenario?

I’d be happy to help! I recently placed a restructuring candidate from a small midsized firm into an AmLaw 100 firm in NY. Feel free to DM.

Happy to share my insight on the market and provide you with an overview of the bankruptcy market in NYC right now. Please message me.

Currently 4-0, and one of my friends is 1-3. He’s pouting and giving up, so he’s pawning off his best players to my week 5 opponent so that he can beat me. Anyone who gets that upset and petty about fantasy needs to chilllllll.

Any insights on the bio patent prosecution group at WilmerHale NY office?

I save every email from legal recruiters. One day, I plan on emailing them all at the same time stating my interest in lateraling and let the chaos begin.

Is it hard for someone out of state to lateral into NYC? I saw that some firms require New York State bar, which I don’t have. I am wondering how serious they are about that requirement. I could waive in without taking the bar, but I am still not barred in NY. I am in litigation.

I am a first-year in big law who started earlier this year. I am on pace to bill around 140 this month and I feel like I am not doing enough work. I’ve consistently reached out to partners but am not getting staffed on assignments. Today I did barely any work. I keep hearing about how slammed firms have been recently and am nervous that I’m not doing what I’m supposed to be doing. Is this a common enough experience when you first start out? What could I be doing differently to be more visible?

I lateraled into a V100 firm about a month or so ago but things have been slow. Have not billed too many hours and have not been staffed on a lot of deals. Is this a cause for concern? Appreciate any thoughts here.

Currently a 5th year in commercial lit living in NYC, my parents recently retired and I want to let them stay in my house rent free in MD. What're the tax implications of doing this? I'm of course not planning to deduct any mortgage interest, etc.

In terms of career, would you rather be a big fish in a small pond with lower pay (with still a ~2000 hour requirement) or a small fish in a big pond with market pay and market expectations? Considering a lateral move to NY, and am curious if I’m going to regret it.

Mid-level M&A associate over here. Thinking I’d like to make the move out of big law but struggling with what my options are. Have no interest in going in-house and staying in a legal capacity - would want to transition into more of a business role. Wondering if anyone can share their experience making that kind of move.
