"post_content": "Looking to move to the city from Texas on 6/15. I have been watching a ton of apartments (and there are plenty that I like and are within my price range). My questions are: (1) how difficult will it be to find a place starting on 6/15? Should I just bite the bullet and start a lease on 6/1?; (2) when should I look to sign? A month out? At the beginning of next month?",

For my experience the move in date is flexible and you just need to pay the 15 days rent in Jun, they usually calculate that for you

Leases in NYC usually aren’t signed until about a month before move-in. The earliest most people start seriously looking is 6 weeks out.
I’ve had leases start both mid month and first of month. Try to time it so you’re not eating too much rent because even a week can equate to several hundred $$$. I’m on a similar timeline for my next spot. You think deals on the market now will still be around in June ?
We’re on the same boat :) Also heading up from Texas on 6/15 but am prepared to sign an earlier lease if I find an apartment I really like. Will be more serious about my search the first week of May.
