I am not entirely sure which fund practice has predictability. It is not the up and down like others and more constant. But the fact that you have so many things going on at once (fund formation, old funds, weird side questions) makes me wonder where the predictability comes in for you? Genuine question, hope this did not sound snarky.

You know when your closings are (even if they may get pushed). You know the week around closing is going to be rough. Random stuff comes up but it’s usually on longer timelines. Definitely still have fire drills of course, and more so in secondaries. But still on the whole seems more level than other corporate work. I’m pretty much always left alone on Saturday nights.

Same. I consistently work at least one day on the weekend, just to catch up as well. But I can usually take one day off.

Tough and challenging but love it because it is a combination of so many areas. That said, it is much more driven by practice and market standards than other practices and it would be a fairly steep learning curve. What class year are you?

I like having some predictability in my schedule. Generally like the work. But can get boring pretty quickly as a junior if you don’t go out of your way to find new things to do/keep yourself interested.

It cannot be stressed enough how terribly boring Funds junior work can be. Yes I’m talking about you Sub Docs.

How are the exits for fund formation?

More limited but better money is definitely right. In-house fund counsel is generally a match of salary, and at the bigger firms it is salary + bonus.

For the past year I have applied to in-house positions without so much as an interview. I review the job descriptions to make sure my skills are transferable, tailor my resume to the required skills and when possible, provide a cover letter indicating why I want to move in-house. For context I have about five years of insurance coverage experience. Is there something is am missing? Any advice from folks who have managed to make the move?

A friend is looking to hire a director full time in LA in-house for a fitness brand, doing videos very similar to those for the classes that are on Peloton. Directing the class instructors, etc. Doesn’t sound like it includes directing ads for the brand, just the class workout videos. Any leads greatly appreciated.

Had a final round interview with a fintech team last week, 5 30-45 min interviews over the course of a few hours. Met with the majority of the team I’d be joining and the manager. I thought the vibes were great and on my end everything seemed to go awesome, mutual fit was there, got along with everyone great, my skills and experience align right with the role. During the wrap up recruiter and i talked next steps he said he’d do two things 1. Send me an email that afternoon with everyone’s email

Just finished my compensation meeting at work, got my promo and a really nice raise that pushed me into the six figure club. If you had asked me 5 years ago if I'd ever be making this much money or be having this much success I would have laughed. My wife is super happy for me and has been a big support but I'm secretly starting to resent the fact I settled for her. If I had known I could do this well in life I would have waited and done so much better than her 😕
