If you’re able to do airfare, 12 room nights, food and entertainment for less than 10K, you have a different definition of spoiling yourself than I do 😅

likefunny

We did 7 days/6 nights at a luxury ranch in Wyoming in June with 2 kids. $30k total. Wouldn’t say it was worth every penny but it was one of the best vacations yet.

like

Erm you'll spend 5k just on the airfare. If you want to be pampered double up that range...

I’ve found that spending a lot on vacations has been the most compelling use case for having a high income. I want to be somewhere really nice with good service and I also want to have enough space for my family and I also also don’t want to spend the full day with the drudgery of taking care of little kids outside of their normal spaces. Putting all of that together is quite expensive. We usually stay in multi-bedroom residences attached to top resorts. Our typical spend for such a place is $1K-$2K/night before adding in flights & other expenses. That felt wildly expensive early in my partner tenure. Now, it’s basically what we expect for a trip that really hits the mark. One other related note - we’ve also found that it’s hard to go through the effort of planning, packing, flying, etc., if we go away for less than a week. I’m willing to drive a few hours for a long weekend, but nothing more significant than that.

Xbalanque in Roatan, Honduras. Small boutique luxury hotel with basically 2 bedroom apartments with a kitchen. Or you can rent a villa.

Where are you based? And what you want to fly to? 5-10K is very reasonable especially based on family size, and expenses beyond airfare (accommodations, transport, foods, and excursions)

like

Use your points? With inflation rising and points programs growing more stingy not sure they may a lot of sense to bank anymore?

Ur gonna need 3 rooms if u bring nanny/au pair, and that'll be minimum 300/night for a nice place...could be 500 or more depending. 1K/night for hotel for sure. Airfare for 6 totally depends on location but figure 500 per person so 3K. Food, booze gonna be at least 300/day unless ur somehow buying food at a grocery store. If you want to do something other than sit at the pool, add more. Cabs/rental car/parking at home. Trinkets and other shit. Imo, no way it is less than 10K all in.

like

Spend the money for the experience and memories- if you dont have points, its easy gonna be $10,000. Would avoid all inclusive resorts finally tried one and it was well below expectations, if u are ok going out of US Ritz Carlton in Caymans is great, and many restaurants easy to walk to

like

+1 for the Ritz. They have residences for rent though you need to find something of a deal or else you’re dropping thousands / night on them. Caribbean Club Grand Cayman is right there too and they have multi-bedroom suites and villas.

With airfare??? That’s very legit for your traveling party size. As you said, you’ll save with renting an entire house or large apartment but then it might not feel like a true vacation, just a change of scene. But for any decent resort, once you add in resort fees, taxes, and transportation (not including food), that’s a reasonable range.

10k is probably the minimum if you are looking to get spoiled. I would say ~$800-1000/day for resort (2-3 BR) + $500/day meals etc + airfare ( hard to estimate for us but you should have a good handle)

There are alot of good Ritz in US too and they have Kids Club, just read reviews cause not all are great

Opening number is $10k for the restaurant tab. You’d be better redecorating the bedroom instead.
