Posting for anyone who may be just “looking at this page” or “sick and tired of being sick and tired”. I found a life through sobriety. It may not be perfect but I no longer HAVE to drink. I never thought it was possible. I wanted to state here that it is. It gets easier as time goes but if you’re fed up know that for many years I HAD to drink. I could not function without it. 24 hours was a miracle to me. If you’re like me you’re reading this and thinking “Bullshit!”. Just try 24 at a time.

What’s the probability of getting a medical RFE in GC process for eb1c? I got a letter saying medical reminder but doesn’t look like an RFE, just a generic letter. Also, my Pwc lawyer suggested we just wait for an RFE but for me time is priority and I don’t to have any hold ups. Need advice please.

Anyone used Botox to treat TMJ/teeth-grinding? My dentist said i should get a mouth guard and potentially do some physical therapy. I seem to be doing a lot of clenching/teeth grinding in the night. I was googling other options and came across a suggestion for Botox. I already get Botox in my forehead for cosmetic purposes so I'm not worried about Botox generally, but unsure how common it is in the jaw for this medical purpose.

Anyone consider a surrogate for non medical reasons? E.g. preference. Is it selfish and will a Dr (or surrogate) want to work with someone who’s choosing it? Context: I’m mid-40s and am concerned about the impact of pregnancy to my health. I’ve also never been excited about the pregnancy stage and avoided it (please don’t judge). I’ve got eggs banked from my 30s but not a lot of them. I feel like I have one real shot with them. Thoughts?

As I'm moving to a new role in a small company, I have a doubt about my salary structure like the Basic salary part is only 20,000 while my take home is 62k after all deductions.
I'm concerned because the leave encashment & other things totally depends on the basic salary.
Are there not any rules for the Basic salary to be at a certain % of CTC or it depends totally on the company?
Also PF deductions they are offering only 1800 p.m but considering 20000 basic it should be 12% of 20000 right?
I met a boy living in a different state online earlier this year. We have met a couple of times and FaceTimed every single day for the last 6 months. He is coming to NYC in a couple of weeks to Thurs-Sun. Suggestions on things for us to do in the city?

Currently my 3 year old is enrolled at a great private school in our area. It’s about 18k per year for an 8-3 day (no part time options). However I’m considering being a sahm (also have a 2 year old). There are lots of day programs in the area that are maybe 3 half days from 8-12 for $500/month. We plan to do public school for pre k 4 on. Would you have any concerns about a 3 year old doing part time prek3?

How to handle working with someone who frustrates you immensely? I work with someone who is one level above me hierarchically and is an ultimate micromanager (not one agenda or recap can be without edits) and is rude about establishing that they have dominance. The more senior leaders on the team are awesome. It’s this one coworker who just got promoted and is now stepping on me constantly. Thanks!

I’m regularly told that they’re exceeding expectations but then they get reviews that say they’re meeting expectations on a team full of people that do way less than they do? I’ve actually been told that if there was something between meets and exceeds…I’d get that…but there not, so I get the same average performer raise, recognition, etc.
Is this normal? And is THIS what is triggering the quiet quitting movement? Let me know.
I’m mid-level in my HR career at my current company and an upcoming Master’s graduate. Studying for my SHRM-CP too. How did you make the transition to that next level? What skills do you need, or is it really just based on YOE (I am the youngest compared to my teammates, many who have 10+ YOE)? I feel like career pathing is not very clear at my company. Each time I ask for guidance on this from my manager, I get told they’ll look into it.... would love some external mentorship and thoughts 🙏🏼

My company switched to WFH/ hybrid permanently which enabled employees to relocate to their dream state as a personal choice & still work for the company. The only requirement is that they return in person 4x a year at their own expense. All other work related travel expenses other than these 4 in person meetings are covered by the company. It was known before accepting the WFH option/ moving.
Some employees are finding this unfair/ unreasonable, company should pay. What are your thoughts?
I have an opportunity for a Director role in the cannabis industry. I have never worked in this industry before and would love to hear the good and not so good for working in HR in this industry. Which certification we would you recommend for career advancement to be an HR manager? PHR or SHRM? Any other certification I should consider? Pros and cons would be greatly appreciated!
Thoughts on PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP certs? I have approximately 9 years of HR exp and my bachelors and MBA. Been debating on whether or not I need to fulfill my urge to get a certification. Wanted to get some thoughts around whether you have a similar background and opted to or opted to not get their certification? Thanks!
Question for those that are familiar with how severance pay works. I received a package a while back and was paid bi-weekly severance. The payments ended a few months ago but just the other day I had a severance deposit. Curious if it’s possible to get additional payment at this point or does this look like a mistake? I know the logical answer might be to just call but I’ll be honest in that I am still looking for a job and this would definitely help me. Thanks for your advice!
If a candidate went through the first offenders program and the charges were discharged without court adjudication of guilty and exonerated, will said charges show up in an employer fingerprinting background check?
PHR vs SHRM vs AIRS? Which one should I pursue?
Many employees at my workplace are asking for raises simply due to inflation and increased cost of living. This is, to certain extent, a legitimate reason; however, I'm sitting here.. tempted to do the same given that raises are being approved left and right- by simply asking for it. Where can I turn to determine fair competitve wages for various positions?
I’ve been in my current position (Bookkeeper) for 4 years now. I’m highly interested in taking the PHR, and I’m wondering if I would qualify for the 4 year HR professional job requirement to be eligible to test for the certificate. I work for a small business, therefore I do all the on boarding paperwork/payroll. Any advice is appreciated.
Are the job postings on LinkedIn for real or are they merely attempts for companies to research who is in the market pool of job seekers?
I'm SHRM-SCP certified and I have been interested in the total rewards or compensation side of HR. Do you think that getting the CCP certification is a good investment? I've seen many Total Rewards open positions but I feel I don't have the necessary experience. Any advices?
I really want to quit my toxic job where I'm underpaid because it's detrimental to my mental health, but I haven't been able to secure a new job in this market after 6+ months of searching
Hey all! Wondering if people have suggestions on LMSs (learning management systems) they love.
I work at a small (25 EE) fintech startup and all the departments are looking for software that would help streamline on boarding, have options for continued learning, and career succession planning. I’ve only worked with larger LMSs previously.
I know this is a subjective topic in certain ways, but I would love to hear your thoughts and why are you enjoy the system you work with.
Why would you resign before being laid off? You’re passing up severance!
If you wait to be laid off, is there a chance you'll receive a severance package?
I would be laid off or fired due to performance. I’ve been trying my best with the role but ultimately cannot keep up with the work load. So they’ve been very particular with things and placing a magnifying glass on my mistakes. Ultimately theres a huge misalignment for me here. We are just not right for one another.
It sounds like you are actually being terminated, is that right? A lay off is not performance-based and is usually due to company downsizing. If you are anticipating you will be fired, you can resign, but it might be better to let them fire you. Unless you are fired for gross negligence or a code of conduct violation, you will likely be eligible to claim unemployment if needed.
I agree. Get the severance and unemployment. You will land on your feet but until then take the package. What happens if there is no layoff?
Exactly so take the severance and the sign on with the new company and count it as a win!
You want to be laid off. Ask for severance and for the company to pay for your COBRA coverage costs for X amount of months. Ask for a lay off letter from the department outline that the company estimated your position. If you are laid off you can likely apply for unemployment at state of fed level until you find a new job.
Definition of terms is really important here. A layoff happens when the company let's you go due to no fault of your own/company restructuring and/or downsizing. A termination is when the company let's you go due to job performance. Layoffs will almost never burn you on a reference check or hinder future employment but a termination can. If you think a layoff is coming, stick around and get that severance $, or if you think you're being terminated, probably makes sense to quit
Like everyone has said terminology does matter and I won't repeat what has been said before. Not sure if you are early in your career but I can only assume that you are. It is okay if you are laid off or fired, you can land on your feet again, it's how resourceful you are.
Not sure why you are thinking you will be laid off or fired but getting a not-so-stellar review is not always an indication of being let go. Most of the time you will get placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). That's usually when you know if they are planning to let you go. If they are documenting at this point they may be creating a case to go in that direction but you still have an opportunity to turn it around.
In the meantime, I would say if you worked with anyone who thinks you are doing a great job, ask them for their contact information. You will be able to use them as a reference for your next employment.
To ease you if you are fired, here are a few things:
Although this may not be of comfort, note that you are not the first person to get fired. Just like any bad moment in life, this too shall pass.
Take it as a learning opportunity and accept accountability from your end, even if it was a wrongful termination. Why? Because there is something to learn from this situation that you could have done differently. Like how to deal with a bad Manager because most likely you will have another one in your career and if you take the time to reflect you will now know how to best manage the situation. Now if it was on your end due to bad performance, what can you do to improve? if not motivated, how can you stay motivated?
Submit for unemployment, on the same day your received notice. It will take a while with paperwork but doing it on the same day gives you an action item and a bit of distraction.
Update your resume and tap into your network. Make it an effort to apply to new roles every day. If you get an interview, stay calm cause anxiety will reflect on your interviews.
You don't have to say you were fired; if asked, you can say we both parted ways when you realized it wasn't the right place for you for x and y reasons. Never talk bad about your previous employer to a new potential employer. Practice with a friend who is good at asking follow-up questions. Get comfortable with being asked and answering the questions without oversharing and committing to definite.
In the background check, depending on the state you live in and how big your previous employer is they may not disclose you were fired. In most cases, that can be grounds for a lawsuit. Most companies now outsourced this information and all the information they provide is Title, compensation, start and the last date of employment, and if you are re-hireable (saying no is no indication of being fired- it could be because you didn't give two weeks' notice). Most of the time if you did great in the interview those pieces won't matter.
Hopefully, this information helps a little
