Looking to switch out of consulting. Does anyone have advice on how to concisely write out all the work you’ve done in consulting if it’s been pretty broad and general? I’ve been an analyst at Accenture for 2 years and have done vastly different things at each client. I appreciate any advice!

Highlight the 3-4 points that most reflect the skills necessary for the job you are applying. This could mean having a few different versions of your resume

like

Put the 2-3 most relevant projects on your resume for each application. Don’t show everything, just show a few which make you seem like a fit for the new job. It’s a pain because you’ll have several resume versions but it’s better to be tailored to the application.

Do you break down your resume project by project? Mine currently has an “Accenture” section with an amalgamation of work I did across my projects

like

Hi! Here is what helped me: 1. I am sure you have maintained an internal resume or bio slide for proposals. Use this as your starting point. Take those project write-ups and put them in one document to start tweaking. 2. I am not sure how much space you’re trying to take up with the Accenture portion of your resume, but I normally go one of two ways: -(longer project overviews) - do a little subsection per project within the consulting firm section. header is a scrubbed client description (“XX revenue XX industry XX company type”). Bullet 1 is “XX role/contribution for XX project type with XX scope.” Bullets 2 and 3 are “XX key achievements.” -(shorter overviews): one bullet per project. “XX role/contribution for XX project type at XX client description that achieved/is projected to achieve XX results.” 3. If you are looking to move out of consulting, make sure to have a non-consultant review your resume. There’s some terminology we use that really won’t mean anything to someone outside consulting (eg, “level 4 process maps”). Make sure someone else reads this to pick up on things that would be unclear. 4. I typically like to list my projects in reverse chronological order (esp b/c I had increasing levels of responsibility). 5. I don’t think I’ve seen this done but if you’ve done very different things and want to highlight them all, you might want to group your projects by function (like list all projects where you did PMO together vs where you functioned as an analyst etc), or you might want to group your projects by type. I just pick and choose different projects to put on each resume and have a master I pull from.

Friday thoughts on Strengths vs weaknesses: I have been told that I am solid in quant, but need development on the creative side of things - brainstorming, strategic frameworks, maybe even writing. If this situation can be improved, what should I do? books or videos or exercises? This doesn't seem easy to tackle at all... If this just reflects how I am like, does it mean I'm not fit for consulting in the longer haul (looking at SC, PM max)? Or perhaps I should focus on DD type of consulting?

I received an offer from Big 4 for an SC3 role. The offer states that I will be eligible for a salary adjustment in Oct 2022. What does this mean? Is that when annual raises occur, or will they review my performance and determine if I should be promoted to manager? I have enough YOE for a manager, but the team recommends that I come in as SC3 to learn how things are done since I have no prior consulting experience.

I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance.
