Looking to the future, is MBA rly going to accelerate my growth and career? People keep saying that it’s important for networking etc. On other hand, people with “high value network” are all going Standford and Harvard which most probably I won’t qualify. If not, it’s just another certification......with ‘average’ people like me working on projects/classes together. I already meet them in the office and networking events. Thoughts?

It's all about pedigree. At a certain point, it's not enough to just work hard and be smart. Your network and your contacts will be what separates you from the rest.

So if pedigree is important, how do those that are not born into it raise their profile? There are many ways, but for the majority, the MBA is the most accessible. You could also marry into it, network/work your way into it, or buy into it.

At the end of the day, you need something in common with the elites of the world, something that connects their world to yours. So if all the top people are going to the best schools, then you want to go there as well.

Only you can answer that question. Did you make good connections while you were there? If you didn't, be honest with yourself and ask why?

If you go and spend $200k at a top MBA, will you utilize the networks there? If the answer to all of the above is no, then no, it's not worth it. Work on your networking skills first and ask yourself what is it that you want out of the MBA.

I would say mba is worth it if you get in top 15, with M7 obviously being preferred

My personal view is that an MBA only makes sense at a top university such as Harvard, etc. You pay for Name and network and get (hopefully) because of that a career boost. Otherwise I wouldn’t be willing to spend so much money for just a certification with no technical value ...
One additional thought: other reasons though might be to have a break or to change career path (eg from Software engineering to a management role) - in particular the first reason is questionable unless you have some sponsorship.

SM1 Understood, and as with all consulting YMMV, but I think a lot of us can check all those boxes (incl some friends that landed in cushier jobs going back to their old Big 4). But hey, we def have more to grow and mature, and I could list a few things I see happening at other companies that are larger that I wish we had the size to get into. Just saying “I wish we hired more MBAs” is not something that makes the list.

Yes it is

Pedigree is not what it used to be. Used to matter tons, and maybe they still do in the big consulting companies that tend to throw that around a bit more when I was there. You’ll have a lot of MBA people tell you it’s so worth it, but not the Ivy MBAs that report to me. They are still paying it off. Like any credential, it’s a good thing to have, and sure maybe for some networking, but are they the golden ticket” to the top of the ladder worth the cost? Dunno, haven’t seen it. Me? Unless you want to get it for yourself, I’d save your money.

For me great investment. Went in making $65k, now making around $280k four years after, promotion coming in next couple months will push me to mid threes.

Assuming 10% YoY comp growth staying in industry (aggressive but reasonable assuming eventually moving to leadership roles) my break even was under 3 yrs post grad, and next year (5yrs post), I’ll be right around double my cumulative earnings (less opportunity cost) had I stayed in industry.

Depends on your career plan and current situation. If you're planning on entrepreneurship, and you already have funding connections, or family money, then you don't need it. If your career plans are outside of business, then you don't need it. If you're yet another Accenture or big 4 person who wants to work at MBB, FAANG, hf/pe/vc or otherwise get a top exit opportunity, then a top MBA would help.
