Looking to transition to in house. I’m a lit attorney and I’m trying to leverage my skills, getting some interviews but yet to land something. I do some privacy work, but not enough to really be a draw for a privacy counsel role. Would a CIPP certificate actually give me any value when trying to transition or is it kind of like a toss off? Nice to have but doesn’t really matter?

Brand Strategy/Planning roles aren't typical in PR. So every new Account hire arrives with no experience working with a Strategist. I'm tired of explaining/showing my role adds necessary value. Do others feel lonely in their roles? I moved in-house from a firm a few months ago, and while I recognize that the virtual nature of the work is a huge factor (I haven’t yet met my coworkers, so it’s harder to make friends), I also am in a small legal department where everyone is far more senior than me, so I don’t have any camaraderie. I’m glad to not only be working with lawyers (like at my firm), but I do miss the ease of having peers with whom I could easily make friends and chat.

Does anyone else’s company do “secondments”? I was asked to “look into” this? Someone who is a non attorney executive had a great idea they could save money and have outside counsel “at their disposal” 24/7 and on-site? Is that how this works? I know we spend a lot of $ on outside counsel but I don’t see how one of them having an office on-site adds much value? Maybe it’s a good thing. I am supposed to “report back.” Are they a joint employee? I was asked to advise “what this will look like.”

When is it time at a struggling company to seek a new role? I’ve only been in my role ~ 1yr. It’s great for prof growth bc I’m on a small legal team in a global co and involved in a wide breadth of matters. High QOL and I like the people.

However, we’ve undergone RIFs (not my region yet). Stock price has taken a hit (above mkt).

Made it to Amazon last round, and rejected. All I got was an email from the recruiter saying they didn't move forward. The team seemed great, and the turnover didn't seem terrible as everyone I interviewed with was there for 3 years or longer. It seemed like a great group doing good work. I'm crushed.

I just put in my two weeks to go to an AM 100 law firm to work in a niche practice area. I've never worked in a firm before. I started of doing compliance (non-attorney role) and then went in-house (acting GC for medium size company got a year). Any advice for someone who never had firm experience? If you went back to a firm what do you think you would have to prepare for? (Besides billiable hours and no life. ) Also, fwiw, I graduate in 2018.
