Personally I wouldn’t buy a gold tone watch unless it was actual gold (like the one you posted). Some of the plating can hold up pretty well but it’s a matter of when, not if, it starts to look bad and the finish deteriorates.
What about this? Ref T132.010.11.031.00
My wife has a Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic and it looks killer! It has a fantastic 80-hour power reserve so she doesn’t need to wear it every day. And frankly enjoys setting it if it’s been idle for a week or so. It also has a clear case back and a nice looking movement which a lot of first time watch owners really enjoy.
Tissot has a lot of great options. You may be able to find some Preowned omega or longines pieces in that price range
For a very feminine looking gold watch, I think the Cartier Panthere is beautiful. I don't normally go for gold, but that one is lovely. It's way out of your price range, but something to keep on your radar.
Shiv has one in gold and in steel. 😁
How about Shinola… something like below? Good brand story and good looking watches. When I’m not wearing my datejust, I turn to my Shinola.

Big fat NO from me on Shinola

If you’re not going to wear it everyday, you’re probably interested in something with a quartz movement. I’d check out Longines and Tissot for some good options in your price range. Shoot for something 30-34mm. I’d recommend sticking with steel for material and color tone - if you get gold tone in this price range, it’ll be something that’s plated and the color can be scratched or worn off to expose the bare steel underneath. Need to jump up price wise to get actual gold.
Plenty of options for dial colors, square or round case shapes, metal or leather bands, etc.
Automatic will make it a bit more expensive and the watch will stop if you don’t wear it for more than a couple days, so quartz is probably the better move unless you’re really interested in a mechanical movement.
OP, can you provide a reference picture of the kind of watch you fancy? Ignore the price for now, just share something!
It helps to know where OP's head is at in terms of looks. But I'm loving all the recommendations thus far! Helps with my Christmas shopping for my wife who has a cartier and wants a side piece.
Oh, something just came to mind. I think there is a gold Breda watch for like < $300. Breda isn’t a brand any watch enthusiasts care for, but who cares if it matches the look you’re after.
