I didn’t have a belly binder (& now kind of wish I had). My doc said to be cautious of those as you don’t want to create an environment for infection. So I defer to those with experience. As for underwear - Granny Panties time. You want nothing that sits on or comes close to that incision. Good luck!
I bought huge granny panties, which worked well. Midwife recommended against binders as they keep you from rebuilding stability in your core.
For the first week post c-section the only underwear I felt comfortable in was the disposable/mesh underwear they provided at the hospital (I asked for a few extra to bring home). Since then I’ve loved the Breathe High Rise Bikini from Gap.
I got a lot of extra mesh underwear and used for the first two weeks with a nightgown or robe. To me it felt better to let the incision area be as uncovered as possible.
Dr ordered one for me in hospital that I took home - nothing fancy but worked well and free
Just get some big, comfy undies that don’t hit at the incision point. I don’t do a belly binder either because I was worried about infection. Once I was good and healed, I started light core exercises and slooooooowwwwwllly worked up to my old routine. It wasn’t fast but it was effective.
I used a belly bandit bamboo binder after I came home from the hospital. The one in the hospital worked great too. I had no issues with the site getting infected and the binder helped me sit up from the bed more comfortably and relieved some back pain probably because it encouraged good posture. I don’t know if it helped my stomach go back to flat but I wasn’t super worried about that. I started exercising 8 weeks postpartum a couple of times a week and my belly is largely flat 5 months out. I have no idea if the belly bandit should get any credit for that, I don’t think much if any.
Random question - I had a vaginal delivery the first time but second may require a c section. I had a lot of vaginal bleeding after birth, as normal for a vaginal delivery. Is that the same after a c section or do they kind of clean your uterus out for you when they remove the placenta?
🙏 Thank you
