Love this expectation chart for online learning. But, should we expect students to have to turn on a camera? Is this fair to the kids who have different living situations and might feel embarrassed of showing their living space? Idk what to do with that aspect of distance learning. Suggestions?

I wouldn’t expect the camera to be turned on but you could expect some level of participation, whether in the chat box or with the mic so you know they are there.

It is against FERPA to make them then the camera on.

Thanks for the clarity! I had a feeling.

You could suggest everyone try to come up with a creative school appropriate back drop that limits “distraction”. Then recommend things like hanging a sheet or blanket between two chairs and sit on the floor in front or move a table in front of curtains and pin interesting school appropriate things to it with permission.

We started by requiring this and then the wife at home and school was so bad we had to stop
