Lowly A1 here but still getting LinkedIn recruiters into the DMs frequently (flex?). I’m sure it’s very common and mostly mass messages to attract candidates so do I need to be responding to all of them? I really like my current job but could be open to something else in the future. What do you all do about the DMs?

I respond to everyone of them saying “thank you, at this time I am not in the market but would love to stay connected should that change in the future”

like

Very helpful. Thank you!

I also thank them but say no if they don't include a dinosaur. Because in my LinkedIn profile it says "when you message me, include your favorite dinosaur." And only three recruiters have ever mentioned it. So when I get "I read your profile and I think you'd be a good fit" and there's no dino reference - then I know it's just a blanket message.

In case you're wondering, it's dreadnaughtus 🦕.

I figured it was kinda than writing "Say potato"

Don't feel obligated to respond to unsolicited messages. If you've got extra time and want to open a relationship, go ahead and respond. Otherwise, just ignore them. I see unsolicited InMail the same as spam email.

1st year/stub in Texas. I was a summer at my firm in both 2019-2020. Thought I preferred litigation, and told the firm that last summer. Had a change of heart, and in April of this year asked the CTO to switch to transactional. However, she said they didn’t have a need for another junior in transactional. Now I’m in lit and hate it. Can I ask to switch again? When would be the best time to do so? Or should/can I lateral as a 1st yr? I like my firm, just don’t want to start my career like this
