M 🐠- Just bought my soon to be brother in law a watch for his engagement present. Should I get it engraved?

You can engrave it if you want, but do know that presents for engagements are absolutely not required or expected

like

That’s cool! You could engrave it with the wedding date. Nice gesture OP

like

Would he want to return it for another watch/something else? Then no engraving

On the other hand, if you are certain that he will like the watch, then engraving is a nice touch. Clear indication that you put some thought to it and gave a personalized gift.

Folks at M&A tax, how many interviews did you have before you received an offer? I have interviewed with at least five different places but have not got one yet.

My manager a top consulting firm just said to me: If I sleep too much (meaning over 4h per night) I get a headache so better to not sleep too much

Watching his 3rd Redbull, second Coca Cola and ATLEAST sixth cup of coffee today being devoured simultaneously, I'm 100% certain that the reason he's getting headaches is not getting caffeine for 4h - not the "too much sleep" XD

Hoping to get some data points on Firm - Slide/spreadsheet/cloud integration. Left PwC to go to a boutique that uses MS PPT/Excel but Google drive. It drives me insane that we manually handle version control and comment in batches. I want to push them to either adopt Google slides/spreadsheets or ms teams. Please provide what your firm (and who your firm is if you can) does and what you’d prefer.

Firm (boutique ) just announced a firm-wide reduction to 3 days a week (it was either that or massive layoffs). I’m very scared about the future, I love consulting very much and can’t imagine exiting, any suggestions on:

1. What to do with the extra time
2. How to find a consulting gig in the current times
3. Anyone willing to chat for career advice

Thank you all 🐠🐟 for being such a supportive community

I’m 23 and <1 year in consulting since graduating. I work at a lesser known firm doing big 4-comparable work, and lately I’ve been feeling anxious about my choice in starting company. From LinkedIn research and general lack of awareness of what I really want to do, I feel like the lack of prestige of the company I started with will prevent me from succeeding big in the future. Anyone have success stories or advice?
