Between which steps do you buy the Patagonia vest? This is critical component of life success.
I just wrapped up a late stage VC interview process this past week (pre-MBA). Agree that the typical path is from Banks - I was the only consultant candidate. The modeling isn’t nearly as intense as what you’d see for buyout PE.
Base salary was in line with current comp, but bonus was significantly (3-4x) more
Even if you got straight VC, your all in comp isn’t going to much.
Better off going to MBB, IBD at BB, FANG, or stating your own firm then going to VC as a leader.
Friends that were interviewing for PE/HF FO positions said VC all in comp isn’t much and probably lower than MBB, FANG, or a top BB firm (IBD).
Someone on here should be able to confirm on VC all in comp for associate roles.
Is it possible? Yes. Is it highly probable? No
Have you done any of those steps yet?
^customer success lead definitely knows he critical components of life success 💯
What stage VC? You can go directly from MBA to early stage VC. Later stage will require IB. MBB/Consulting don't really feed into VC.
^ curious about that. Why is late stage “harder”?
Starting at M7 MBA
Late stage just requires more financial modeling skills, but isn’t necessarily harder to get into
You can get into VC at any time. You’ll just get into a shitty VC unless you were on a successful founding team or did something incredible at a PE or maybe maybe maybe BB IB
Honestly ask yourself why you want to do VC. Consulting doesn't exit there post MBA and very few recruit at MBA outside of hsw
Bain2 - did you learn financial modeling from work or school?
School - I was once an aspiring banker
