Memory (RAM) stands for Random Access Memory. This is very fast short term storage called flash storage. Your computer uses it to store the programs you are currently running. If you use all of your ram your computer will slow down and crash. 8gb should be enough ram.
Storage is long term data storage. Your files operating system and everything is stored on here. You have two options for storage in a computer:
Traditional hard drives store and read data by scratching it onto a spinning disk sort of like a cd or a record player. Current Mac books probably only come with Solid State Drives (SSD) and are much faster and reliable than hard drives.
Solid state drives are very fast long term storage because they are pretty much the same technology as ram(flash storage). They don't have to wait for a disk to warm up and start spinning fast. This technology is much more expensive than hard drives but totally worth it. Your computer will restart and you will look away for a second and maybe wonder if your computer even restarted because it was so fast.
Sorry for the long winded answer I am a tech nerd. In short, get 8GB of ram, get more if you plan on running heavy programs like video editing software and such.
Get a 256gb Solid state and you should be good too. Again the amount of storage is up to you but 256 is good for most people. Hope that helps
I wasn’t looking for this answer, but absolutely great explanation for us technically challenged!
Thank you!
