As an American who’s lived in Switzerland, there are definitely wonderful aspects about the country. It is absolutely beautiful, great food, much better health and social systems, etc. It is very expensive. But I was sad to learn how racist and sexist the country is. It takes different forms than the US in certain ways, but a lot of the same underlying themes exist (e.g., prejudices against immigrants, assumptions about gender roles). Just don’t be surprised if you run into the same bullshit that you hate the US for, if that’s why you’re leaving.

It's significantly more racist than the US in many ways, in my experience

like

Can't blame OP
- political system
- education system
- overworked employee culture
- dick measuring culture

America at its core is divisive now and its very hard to change.
I've lived 5+ years each in 4 countries across 3 continents including the US. Trying to leave the US now coz the culture is really not ideal for a healthy mind. Not speaking for everyone but yes in my case.

What I read was I couldn’t handle working at Deloitte. They laid me off as the bottom 5% of the company. I had to scour the entire globe to find another country willing to accept me and the lucky winner is Switzerland.

dont want to be part of the solution :(

we need you to be an advocate here

crazy how people are quick to say “if you don’t like america then leave” yet when someone leaves for an awesome country and opportunity, they still get shit on

EY2 - it’s not that we don’t understand that the US isn’t this perfect utopia. It’s that OP shit on it and was like I’m out. Frankly, we don’t need that attitude anyways.

Cool. It took you 10 years of hating something to make a change? Yikes.

If it helps with perspective I hate switzerland. Have fun paying WAY too much for everything and eating food that has no identity because it's not sure if it's french, german, italian or swiss. Morale of the story is everywhere sucks for different reasons, if you aren't looking for the good you won't find it. I look forward to hearing about how much it sucks there too after you waste 10 years again

Hey if you’d never tried you’d never know. No regrets and best of luck to you in Switzerland! Have you got an offer lined up already? Did you work at D all 10 years? What was the worst part of living here? If you’re comfortable answering, where are you from? Super curious about this.

Not OP but man does living in America make you appreciate other countries. Not having to worry about healthcare coverage, not seeing rampant income disparity, not worrying about state vs fed politics.

So... any advice for Americans who want to move to Switzerland for work?

P1 is right to some extent. While I would more say „speak swiss german“. If you are white, from Germany and don‘t understand their Swiss German some might not be very friendly to you.

On the flipside, I do know quite a few Indian or black friends who are second generation Swiss and there is no racism towards them at all as they speak fluently Swiss German.

In summary: Switzerland is different 😅

That was a difficult post to read. The US gave you the opportunity to make a life and living here, and you did just that for 10 years. Now you trash the country and people on the way out. No appreciation. Sorry it didn’t work out, obviously at some point you thought it was the best option for you. Good luck in Switzerland.

@VP1: google it, there is a very embarrassing story D saying it about itself which is ever since a running joke

Take me with you ! 🙏 😅 I’ve applied to 4 roles in Switzerland in the past 2 weeks

I’d say F off then. Looks like you’re really bitter about something. Can’t really blame the US though. It’s a country, doesn’t have intention. Also why everyone living in the US?

As a European-American living close to Switzerland currently - it’s boring af and very closed off to foreigners. Unless you’re white and rich. I’m a white male and native German speaker and still treated as second class when I travel there.

Switzerland ranks higher as a better country to live in than the USA. Whoever is arguing is a 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

WTF got an offer from a listed tech company (non-FAANG). Negotiated pay with HR for 2 weeks and they wouldn’t budge, “We managed to get candidates who pay significantly less than you but were similarly able to value add.”

And HR gave 2 conflicting info during the process: 1. They are in the process of preparing an offer letter for another candidate in parallel; 2. Bosses have decided to continue interviewing other candidates to get a better fit

Wtf do I do? I was ready to resign and join?!?

Whats average salary in Bank of America for 4-6 yrs experience?

In HR discussion, they told due to Salary Parity, they offer only this much (upto 20 LPA) for 4-6 yrs experience.
Package they offered is even below 20% hike of my current package.

Please help me know what's the avg salary for such experience in BOA. What he told is right? They don't offer any further?
