How to rewire your brain to find happiness from inside?

Everyone says happiness comes from within and look for positives and I am trying to but I am failing miserably! How do I rewire my brain so I can be happy and don't let things around me affect me (negativity moreso)? I think my current mind is able to find happiness from external things and is short lived but I need to make a change so looking for suggestions!
