Mamas how did you sleep train your baby? What method or non method techniques did you use?

Precious little sleep book has many options for sleep training. I ultimately did modified CIO at 16 weeks.

I was losing 1.5H each night putting baby down for the night and I needed that time back for my sanity.

Note, independent sleep does not mean night weaning, she still woke 2 times to feed and that has gradually decreased to 1 time by 23 weeks.

Good luck! And I’ll add don’t feel guilty, babies are not born with the ability to put themselves to sleep. You having good rest and time for yourself will also lead you to be the best parent you can be for your child 🤗

Thank you. I’m going through something similar it takes an hour and then I just wait to go back in sometime every 10,15,30 mins

We never did any formal sleep training. I moved my son to a floor bed around 4 months and nursed him to sleep every night. Then I’d slip away and sleep in my bed. He slept pretty well from 7-5am most nights and I would nurse him at 5 and sleep next to him until we both woke up around 7am. In the earlier months there was an extra nursing session around 2am and then I would sleep with him from 2-5am as well. Stopped nursing around 16 months and would just lay next to him into he fell asleep until he turned 2 years old, when we just started tucking him in and saying good night and he’d just fall asleep on his own. Overall pretty smooth transitions; there were a couple of times when I really felt like I was not getting enough sleep and considered “real” sleep training but ultimately decided against it and pushed through, typically this was during sleep regression periods or periods of teething. We just always tried to stick strictly to our bedtime routine.

Starting at 5.5 months we made sure she fell asleep in her crib, but stayed next to her parting and shushing. It took 50 min of crying the first night, then 15, then 5, and now (2 months later) she goes to sleep within a few minutes. There was crying but I felt better being next to her and knowing she didn’t feel abandoned (although she clearly didn’t like it)

We did the “Healthy sleep habits, happy child” and Taking Cara Babies methods. Both emphasize teaching the kids to fall asleep on their own as early as possible. TCB is a little better at giving specific, age appropriate tactics though, and is better at outlining what to expect at each age.

Overall, real sleep training only works if baby is >5mo. Most everything before that is laying the groundwork so that they can sleep through the night as soon as they’re capable of it.

Based on what I’ve learned from moms on call and the success I’ve had with my two kids so far, the most important piece of sleeping at night is structure during the day to make sure they don’t get overtired or sleep too much.

I also use this book but for my second I am having trouble merging the 3am feeding. How did you do it?

All 3 classes with Taking Cara Babies, starting with the newborn class. We also used a Snoo. I credit both with having way better sleep than expected from the beginning while also not feeling like I was putting my baby or family though something that felt “wrong.” Baby is 9 months and an amazing night sleeper now. Praying it wasn’t a coincidence and will repeat exactly with #2!

like

We’ve added in the taking Carababies dreamfeed now. He’s not waking up for the dreamfeed but eats; making a total of 6-7 hours continuously. Fingers crossed this continues to work! I’ve heard eventually they won’t even take the dreamfeed anymore and will just want to sleep.

We sleep trained at 12 weeks using the Ferber method, then eventually went to CIO when he would have various regressions.

It worked well for use because my husband and I both felt comfortable doing and felt like our baby could handle it. I’m a big believer that there is no single method that will work for all babies/families. Use a method that feels right for you, your baby, and your partner.

And whatever you do, be consistent!

How old? I basically co slept until probably 9 months and on/off again until the peak of night madness at 15 months. Thought I was going to die of exhaustion. We ended up putting him down (after a really good routine) awake and then would not go in for 2 minutes if he started crying. 99% of the time, he stopped crying and laid down before I could set my timer. Now he is a champ at almost 2. Bring him to his room, read a book, he points to bed, and that is it.

All this to say, even terrible sleepers can become good ones. Good luck

5.5 months followed Sleepeasy Solution (short book - modified cry it out method) over Christmas break. I also used this book to night wean at 7ish months. 2 years old now and a perfect sleeper and napper.

like

Agree with above. Used taking cara babies and it was so helpful! I didn’t use the snoo but the tips were so helpful. My baby is 10 months now and is such a good napper and nighttime sleeper.

We swore by the “baby sleep solution” book. It was a game changer. Had ours sleeping 12 hours by 11 weeks old.

Repost: Are there any single moms in this group? How do you cope with juggling a career as an attorney and being a full time solo parent with limited support? To what extent do you just hide your personal life/situation from work? Do you feel like fellow attorneys, specifically partners, look down on you because of this? Feeling really down about this lately. Have managed to hide it so far but I feel like it will come out eventually and want to brace myself for the professional fallout.

Hi Fishes, do we have paternity leave in TCS?

Realistically, does a baby’s ability to sleep long stretches at night just depend on the baby and not so much what the parents do? Everyone I talk to has such wildly different experiences with sleep and tbh it mostly seems random

I feel very lost. I just started as an associate at a big firm this year and have a one year old son. Learning how to be a mom and an associate has been extremely tough and I have felt burnt out on multiple occasions this year. Prior to having a child, I was a very determined individual and was used to saying yes to almost everything because I wanted to accomplish those things. Nowadays I feel like I don’t care about my job as much and being away from him gets more and more difficult.

Baby is 10.5 months and isn’t drinking expressed breastmilk or breastfeeding well at all. In the bottle we give her 4 oz & she will only drink 1-2 oz. Breastfeeding she will only drink for a few min, get distracted, and maybe nurse for another few min. She isn’t gaining weight well either, but doctor isn’t concerned. I’m worried- baby should be drinking breastmilk right?? She’s eating solids and eating sometimes well, sometimes not at all. Waiting on phone call back from doctor.

Ever get that sinking feeling when another mom is so interested in your child’s progress - because she’s constantly comparing it against her child’s progress. We can discuss so many other topics exhaustively and in depth; Why do we need to go over every nuance of what the kids are doing! They all move at their own pace, and sometimes they leap frog each other. I need tactful and effective ways of moving the conversation away from the kids - suggestions welcome!

Should i consider a potential tenant with following facts

Credit score far lesser what they had stated (500 which was dropped from 700 they say due to student loan)
New job so no supporting paystubs.
I do have the employment offer letter, but is that enough? What can i even verify using that?
No cosigner and the tenant is reluctant to share bank statements.

As a landlord im bit desperate too and do see some red flags. But like the kid overall and he feels genuine! Help

How did you tell your manager you’re pregnant? Did it affect pay/promos? And then, subsequently, how did you start letting colleagues know you’re pregnant? Feels awkward to just randomly drop the news in a meeting! I work remotely so it’s hard to tell by video :) I’m 21 weeks and feel like I’ve waited as long as I can to at least notify my manager. I was waiting to negotiate my salary for next year but per company trend that doesn’t get set until January (manager reviews are written in Dec).

I consider doing a mba to switch from academia to business. I am a 31y/o Post doc in humanities and could stay in academia until finishing a part time online mba (24mths). The part time option is the cheapest and easiest to organize. The other option would be a 10-12 months full time mba abroad, with higher costs and much more difficulties in organizational things (2year old kid and spouse would come with me). Still it would be a great experience to do it with the fam. How would you decide?

Really want my husband to be a stay at home husband. I'm already the breadwinner in our household and considering taking a job where I'll make nearly what our combined TC is now. The career and ambitions he has would not take a hit if he took off and needed to return later. It'd open up more time for us to pursue rental properties and that could supplement his retirement. He's on PTO right now and I jokingly said he should be a house husband but we're kinda wondering seriously about it.
