Mamas how did you sleep train your baby? What method or non method techniques did you use?

Precious little sleep book has many options for sleep training. I ultimately did modified CIO at 16 weeks. I was losing 1.5H each night putting baby down for the night and I needed that time back for my sanity. Note, independent sleep does not mean night weaning, she still woke 2 times to feed and that has gradually decreased to 1 time by 23 weeks. Good luck! And I’ll add don’t feel guilty, babies are not born with the ability to put themselves to sleep. You having good rest and time for yourself will also lead you to be the best parent you can be for your child 🤗

Thank you. I’m going through something similar it takes an hour and then I just wait to go back in sometime every 10,15,30 mins

We never did any formal sleep training. I moved my son to a floor bed around 4 months and nursed him to sleep every night. Then I’d slip away and sleep in my bed. He slept pretty well from 7-5am most nights and I would nurse him at 5 and sleep next to him until we both woke up around 7am. In the earlier months there was an extra nursing session around 2am and then I would sleep with him from 2-5am as well. Stopped nursing around 16 months and would just lay next to him into he fell asleep until he turned 2 years old, when we just started tucking him in and saying good night and he’d just fall asleep on his own. Overall pretty smooth transitions; there were a couple of times when I really felt like I was not getting enough sleep and considered “real” sleep training but ultimately decided against it and pushed through, typically this was during sleep regression periods or periods of teething. We just always tried to stick strictly to our bedtime routine.

We did the “Healthy sleep habits, happy child” and Taking Cara Babies methods. Both emphasize teaching the kids to fall asleep on their own as early as possible. TCB is a little better at giving specific, age appropriate tactics though, and is better at outlining what to expect at each age. Overall, real sleep training only works if baby is >5mo. Most everything before that is laying the groundwork so that they can sleep through the night as soon as they’re capable of it.

Based on what I’ve learned from moms on call and the success I’ve had with my two kids so far, the most important piece of sleeping at night is structure during the day to make sure they don’t get overtired or sleep too much.

I also use this book but for my second I am having trouble merging the 3am feeding. How did you do it?

All 3 classes with Taking Cara Babies, starting with the newborn class. We also used a Snoo. I credit both with having way better sleep than expected from the beginning while also not feeling like I was putting my baby or family though something that felt “wrong.” Baby is 9 months and an amazing night sleeper now. Praying it wasn’t a coincidence and will repeat exactly with #2!

like

We’ve added in the taking Carababies dreamfeed now. He’s not waking up for the dreamfeed but eats; making a total of 6-7 hours continuously. Fingers crossed this continues to work! I’ve heard eventually they won’t even take the dreamfeed anymore and will just want to sleep.

We sleep trained at 12 weeks using the Ferber method, then eventually went to CIO when he would have various regressions. It worked well for use because my husband and I both felt comfortable doing and felt like our baby could handle it. I’m a big believer that there is no single method that will work for all babies/families. Use a method that feels right for you, your baby, and your partner. And whatever you do, be consistent!

How old? I basically co slept until probably 9 months and on/off again until the peak of night madness at 15 months. Thought I was going to die of exhaustion. We ended up putting him down (after a really good routine) awake and then would not go in for 2 minutes if he started crying. 99% of the time, he stopped crying and laid down before I could set my timer. Now he is a champ at almost 2. Bring him to his room, read a book, he points to bed, and that is it. All this to say, even terrible sleepers can become good ones. Good luck

Starting at 5.5 months we made sure she fell asleep in her crib, but stayed next to her parting and shushing. It took 50 min of crying the first night, then 15, then 5, and now (2 months later) she goes to sleep within a few minutes. There was crying but I felt better being next to her and knowing she didn’t feel abandoned (although she clearly didn’t like it)

like

5.5 months followed Sleepeasy Solution (short book - modified cry it out method) over Christmas break. I also used this book to night wean at 7ish months. 2 years old now and a perfect sleeper and napper.

Agree with above. Used taking cara babies and it was so helpful! I didn’t use the snoo but the tips were so helpful. My baby is 10 months now and is such a good napper and nighttime sleeper.

We swore by the “baby sleep solution” book. It was a game changer. Had ours sleeping 12 hours by 11 weeks old.

Advice needed-I’m 30 weeks pregnant and constantly getting dumped on at work (in industry now). I’m high risk (gestational diabetes & hypertension) and have been clear with my all male management team that I’m high risk. Still, they are steady trying to pull me into new projects while I’m actively leading one of the most high profile projects in the org. From a career standpoint, I appreciate it, but I cannot physically keep up the way I used to and feel like I’m risking my and my baby’s health.

Might be a paranoid mom question - my 16 month old is starting daycare next week. So far, I’ve had virtual interviews/meet and greet sessions with the daycare staff. Today we went in for our in-person orientation and I noticed that my child is the only non-white kid in his class of 8. Not entirely shocking, but in my head (and having seen pictures in their catalog) I was hoping there would be a little more diversity. Should I be worried about my kid feeling left out because he looks different?

I have so much mom guilt sending my baby to daycare. She’s 6 months old. The transition has been harder on me than her (she seems fine and happy, just isn’t sleeping well there yet) but I wonder if I should try and find a different solution. Part time nanny, part time daycare? We can’t afford a nanny full time. If I’m WFH and we have a nanny part time is it realistic that I’d see her during the day or am I kidding myself?

What do we do now?Anyone have recommendations for alternative formulas we can try? How would you reintroduce formula to a baby like this? TIA
