I’m yelling and getting way more annoyed at him and I just want to be better. Any tips or books that helped you navigate this age? General talk back, not listening, annoying baby brother more than usual. Missing my sweet mannered boy sigh.
Whenever my 2 yo acts like this it’s about attention. Are you multitasking watching him and working? I realize we all are to a degree but I’ve noticed the behavior is better when I give my full attention for short spans between multitasking.
:( I’m sorry that sounds so frustrating and I don’t have experience through the full toddler years so not sure if it’s just unavoidable to a degree but I have noticed already that yelling and time outs don’t really work for more than a very short period of time. I’ve been reading about positive discipline which is for older ages but so far I like the theory of “natural consequences” (e.g. you made a mess so you clean it up vs being yelled at while I do) and redirecting bad behavior into helpful behavior (even when not really helpful). When my son is trying to o climb the dishwasher for example I instead give him one of his cups at a time to put into a drawer on the other end of the kitchen.

Yes! My 2.5 yo is the same right now—just happened in the past month or so. Try listening to Janet Lansbury podcasts. She has a book—haven’t read it but heard it’s good. A couple of episodes on strong willed kids gave me some tools to use with my son. Also made me realize some of the tantrums just need to happen for him to develop emotionally and made me feel more able to handle them.
I’m gonna check this out too! No judgment PwC, my husband pinched my toddler back the other day 😂
